Those credited with this unit standard are able to: demonstrate knowledge of plant and equipment; select and use plant and equipment relevant to the workplace; and maintain plant and equipment. Explanatory notes 1 The following legislation and regulations (and subsequent amendments) are relevant to this unit standard and must be followed where applicable: – Health and Safety in Employment Act, 1992 – Transport (Vehicle Standards) Regulations, 1990 and Guide to Vehicle Standards (MOT Guides 1 and 2), (available from Standards New Zealand, telephone 04 498 5991) – Lead Process Regulations, 1950. 2 When the evidence requirements state company policy, it is assumed that it is to the same standard as the vehicle and radiator manufacturers' repair standards. Range test tanks, draining systems, compressor, degreasing tanks, (PTR) plastic tank radiator fixtures, radiator jigs, test equipment, extractor fans, sheet metal equipment, lifting equipment, spraypainting equipment, water blaster, steam cleaner, band saw, breakdown or wash down bay, ultra sonic cleaning equipment, drills, grinder, buff, bead blaster, arc welders, plastic welding equipment, lead lamps, transformer, solder torch; gas equipment – propane, LPG, CNG, natural gas, acetylene, nitrogen. Evidence requirements 1.1 Purpose of plant and equipment is identified according to manufacturers' specifications and company policy. 1.2 Principles of how plant and equipment operate are identified according to manufacturers' specifications and company policy. 1.3 Safety procedures when using plant and equipment are identified according to manufacturers' specifications, company policy, and legislation. Outcome 2 Select and use plant and equipment relevant to the workplace. Evidence requirements 2.1 Plant and equipment relevant to the workplace are identified and used according to manufacturers' specifications and company policy. 2.2 Safe working practices are carried out throughout the task. Range personal safety, safety to other people, environmental safety; vehicle safety; tool, equipment, and machine safety. 2.3 Plant and equipment relevant to the workplace are used in a manner and purpose for which they are designed. 2.4 Plant and equipment relevant to the workplace are shut down according to manufacturers' specifications. Evidence requirements 3.1 Plant and equipment relevant to the workplace are cleaned after use according to company policy, and are stored in the proper place without damage. 3.2 Plant and equipment relevant to the workplace are maintained in a safe working condition according manufacturers' specifications and company policy. 3.3 Safe working practices are carried out throughout the task.
