NZQA registered unit standard 295 version 5 Page 1 of 3 Title Perform process operations for extrusion blow moulding Level 1 Credits 4 Purpose People credited with this unit standard are able to: identify and take precautions against operation hazards; perform process operations; and demonstrate knowledge of scrap and waste material and granulating scrap material in accordance with enterprise procedures. This unit standard is designed to enable entry level people to perform process operations in an extrusion blow moulding operation. Explanatory notes 1 All work practices must meet enterprise health and safety requirements. 2 Definitions Enterprise means an organisation where training and/or assessment is taking place, and/or where the trainee is employed. Enterprise procedures are defined as actions which comply with the policies, systems, and directives in a particular enterprise. Enterprise procedures must comply with the requirements of the Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992, and subsequent amendments. Outcomes and evidence requirements Outcome 1 Identify and take precautions against operation hazards. Evidence requirements 1.1 The hazards of heating plastics materials in a blow moulding machine are identified in accordance with enterprise procedures. The hazards, harm, and precautions for the extrusion blow moulding process are identified in accordance with enterprise procedures. Range hazards include but are not limited to – entrapment in moving parts, hot surfaces, hot material, sharp edges, spilt liquids and materials, excessive noise, repetitive lifting. Outcome 2 Perform process operations. Evidence requirements 2.1 Process operations are performed in accordance with enterprise procedures. Range 2.2 Emergency stopping of the blow moulding machine and ancillary equipment is demonstrated in accordance with enterprise procedures. Range 2.3 process operations may include – product removal, product deflashing, product inspection, product finishing, product packaging, scrap processing; evidence is required for at least four. evidence may be simulated if required. Production recording is carried out in accordance with enterprise procedures. Outcome 3 Demonstrate knowledge of scrap and waste material and granulating scrap material in accordance with enterprise procedures. Evidence requirements 3.1 Scrap and waste material is identified. 3.2 The purpose and principle of operation of material scrap granulating equipment are described. 3.3 Personal safety equipment requirements for use when operating scrap granulating equipment are described. Range 3.4 safety equipment includes but is not limited to – ear protection, eye protection. Hazards, harm, and precautions associated with the use of scrap granulating equipment are described.
