Components of this qualification can be used with Gateway programmes for schools. The purpose of the National Certificate in Furniture (Level 2) with strands in Introductory Furniture Finishing Skills, Introductory Furniture Making Skills, and Introductory Upholstery Skills is to ensure that all employees in the furniture industry are familiar with the furniture operations they are working in and can perform duties responsibly, safely and efficiently. This qualification can lead on to the National Certificate in Furniture (Level 3) with strands in Finishing, Machine Operator, Free Standing Furniture, Frame Making, Upholstery, Upholstery Cutting, and Upholstery Sewing [Ref: 1503]. Replacement Information This qualification replaced the National Certificate in Furniture (Introduction to General Furniture Manufacturing) (Level 2) [Ref: 0009], the National Certificate in Furniture (Manufacturing Upholstery) (Level 2) [Ref: 0621], and the National Certificate in Furniture Finishing (Level 2) [Ref: 0790]. not able to complete sufficient off-job training and assessment to meet the requirements of the core elective. The number of credits required in the core elective was identified as disadvantaging these trainees. Changes to structure and content The amount of credits required in the core elective section was changed from 8 credits of which 5 must be at level 2, to a minimum of 5 credits at level 2 or above. The number of credits required to complete this qualification decreased from 46-52 to 43-49 credits. Standard details were updated, where required, to reflect any changes made at review. This qualification, and its preceding version (version 2), contain standards that replace earlier standards. For the purposes of these versions of this qualification, people who have gained credit for the expiring standards are exempt from the requirement to gain credit for the replacement standards.
