Remove and replace motor vehicle interior trim in the motor body

Purpose
This unit standard is for people who are at pre- employment
level or who have recently started work in the motor body
industry. People credited with this unit standard are able to:
demonstrate knowledge of motor vehicle interior trim; remove
and replace door fittings; and remove and replace interior trim
in the motor body industry.

1
The following legislation (and subsequent amendments) is applicable to this unit
standard and must be followed where applicable:
– Transport Regulations 1990 and Land Transport Guide to Vehicle Standards
– Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992
– Resource Management Act, 1991
– Explosives Act, Class 6.1.

Remove and replace door fittings.

Evidence requirements
2.1
Tools and equipment are selected to enable the parts to be removed, and used
according to manufacturer‘s specifications.
2.2
Trim is removed without damage to trim panel or trim fittings.
Range
arm rests, pull handle, door opening handle, door lock, paintwork,
water deflector, speakers, mouldings, electrical fittings, pockets.
2.3
Door locking mechanisms are removed and replaced without damage to glass
or connecting levers according to manufacturer’s specifications.
2.4
Door glass and fittings are removed and replaced according to manufacturer‘s
specifications without damage to glass, bodywork and fittings.

Evidence requirements
3.1
Tools are selected to enable the parts to be removed and replaced, and used
according to manufacturer’s specifications.
3.2
Seats are removed without damage to seat, trims, carpets, paintwork and are
replaced so as to be properly aligned and secure according to manufacturer‘s
specifications.
3.3
Seat belts are removed and replaced according to the manufacturer’s
specifications and Transport Regulations.

3.4
Interior trim panels are removed to gain access for repairs without damage to
adjacent areas, and are replaced according to manufacturer‘s specifications.
3.5
Quarter light windows are removed without damage to glass or fittings and are
replaced according to manufacturer’s specifications.
3.6
Carpets, console panels, and sealing rubbers are removed and replaced
according to manufacturer‘s specifications, and without damage to adjacent
panels or fittings.
3.7
Safe working practices are carried out throughout the task.
