This unit standard is for vehicle despatchers in the taxi
industry who use a computer for the despatch of taxis.
People credited with this unit standard will be able to operate
a computer-aided despatch system to despatch taxis and to
assist the taxi organisation’s management.

Recommended: Unit 18111, Despatch taxis or demonstrate
equivalent knowledge and skills.
accreditation option:
Evaluation of documentation and visit by NZQA and industry.
moderation option:
A centrally established and directed national moderation
system has been set up by the NZ Motor Industry Training
Organisation (Incorporated).

It is recognised that computer-aided despatch systems
are normally custom built to meet individual company
requirements. This unit standard is designed to assess
candidates’ skill in the use of computer-aided systems
to achieve tasks, not to assess their actual computer
skills, and may be assessed in a real or simulated
situation.

Data is entered into a computer-aided despatch system correctly, and data is
accurate.
Range:
availability and location of taxis, customer requirements.
1.2
Job details given to taxi operator on the road is consistent with the customer
requirements, any customer enquiries, and is accurate.
1.3
Use of computer-aided despatch system for vehicle tasking meets customer,
legal, and organisational requirements.
Range:
1.4
may include but is not limited to – vehicle selection including any
special attributes, route selection, passenger special needs.
On-board electronic information is transferred from despatch computer to
vehicles correctly and accurately.

Use a computer-aided despatch system to assist the taxi organisation’s management.
performance criteria

Action taken in response to information received from taxi operators through the
computer-aided despatch system is appropriate, and complies with
organisational requirements.
Range:
2.2
includes but is not limited to – information enquiry, processing
complaints, travel emergency, life-threatening emergency.
Statistical reports produced using the computer-aided despatch system are
accurate, and meet organisational requirements.
