NZQA registered unit standard 29176 version 1 Page 1 of 3 Title Communicate with internal and external clients, and seek raceday rides or drives Level 4 Purpose Credits 10 This unit standard is intended for people who are employed in a thoroughbred or harness racing industry context who seek raceday rides/drives, engage in interviews, and communicate with raceday officials and track personnel. People will be working under broad guidance with full responsibility for their work routines. Classification Equine>Equine Care Available grade Achieved Explanatory notes 1 Demonstration of competency must be consistent with: Obligations required under the New Zealand Rules of Racing or the New Zealand Rules of Harness Racing, which are empowered under the Racing Act 2003 Workplace and/or stable procedures Legislation – Racing Act 2003, Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992 Code of Welfare: Horses and Donkeys available at http://www.mpi.govt.nz. 2 Candidates must demonstrate competency in the context of a commercial business operation under normal working conditions. 3 A race is an official race day under the relevant code rules of racing. Outcomes and evidence requirements Outcome 1 Review raceday acceptances for race engagements, and seek raceday rides/drives. Evidence requirements 1.1 Identifies suitable horses from within fields which match own requirements. 1.2 Obtains, clarifies and confirms information clearly and concisely from the trainer relevant to the horse and the race. 1.3 Promotes own abilities and suitability for the horse and the race. Outcome 2 Participate in an interview by the trainer, and owner, in pre-race and post-race situations in thoroughbred or harness racing. Range may also include interviews with the media. Evidence requirements 2.1 Presents self, and responds to interview questions appropriately with factual accuracy. 2.2 Provides constructive feedback regarding the horse and race. Outcome 3 Communicate raceday information to raceday officials and track personnel. Evidence requirements 3.1 Communicates and/or requests information effectively, appropriately, professionally, and with factual accuracy.
