Purpose
People credited with this unit standard are able to prepare to
operate, and operate mechanical plant used in marine or
composite industry.

Explanatory notes
1
All required equipment and plant must be set up, started up, operated, and shut
down in accordance with organisation policies and procedures.

All work practices must meet recognised codes of practice and documented worksite
health and safety procedures (where these exceed code) for personal, product, and
worksite health and safety, and must meet the obligations required under the Health
and Safety in Employment Act 1992 and the Resource Management Act 1991, and
subsequent amendments.

All work practices must meet documented worksite quality management systems.
These include documentation of activities, events, reporting, and decisions.

Range
mechanical plant may include – band saw, circular saw, dimension saw, spindle
moulder, brake press, drill press, thicknesser, welding equipment or plant,
compressors.

Machines, ancillary equipment, product and material hazards are identified and
precautions taken in accordance with organisation policies and procedures and
occupational safety and health standards.

The process and sequence of operation are identified in accordance with task
requirements and organisation policies and procedures.
