Explanatory notes
1
Organisation procedures refers to the documented procedures for the worksite.

All procedures must comply with the Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992, and
Health and Safety in Employment Regulations 1995, and their subsequent
amendments.

It is expected that people gaining credit will be competent in the use of the tools listed
in the range statement.

Range
may include folding rule, measuring tapes, pencil, hammer, nail sets,
punches, squares, saws, bevels, chisels, planes, drills, screwdrivers,
dividers, oilstone, levels, gauges, wrecking bar, plumb bob, nippers,
spanners, pliers, snips, chalk and string, sanding block, brace and auger
bits, files, vices, clamps, wrenches.

Select and use hand tools to complete tasks.
Evidence requirements
1.1
Hand tools are selected in terms of the tasks to be completed.
1.2
Safety hazards are identified in using hand tools and precautions are taken in
accordance with organisation procedures.
1.3
Hand tools are used to meet the job tasks and requirements.

Care for hand tools.
Evidence requirements
2.1
Cutting edges of hand tools are evaluated to determine cutting efficiency.
2.2
Hand tools which are unsafe, faulty, or in need of repair and/or maintenance are
identified and corrective actions taken in accordance with organisation policies
and procedures.
2.3
Hand tools are cleaned, serviced, and stored in accordance with organisation
policies and procedures
