Purpose
People credited with this unit standard are able to prepare for
and produce resin items, mould, demould laminated items, and
finish the items to specifications.

Explanatory notes
1
All required equipment must be set up, started up, operated, and shut down in
accordance with organisation policies and procedures.

All work practices must meet recognised codes of practice and documented worksite
health and safety procedures (where these exceed code) for personal, product, and
worksite health and safety, and must meet the obligations required under the Health
and Safety in Employment Act 1992 and Resource Management Act 1991, and any
subsequent amendments.

Definitions
Equipment refers to applicators, dispensers, measuring devices, cutters, and
cleaning utensils.
Process specification refers to the documented order and method of applying the
materials used to manufacture the item (time, materials, temperature, and application
rates).
Product specification refers to the documented requirements of the manufactured
item.
Organisation policies and procedures refer to the documented procedures for
machinery and organisation.
Resin refers to vinyl ester, epoxy, laminated polyester, phenolic, or any other resin
type used in the marine or composite industry.
Resources refer to resins, catalysts, reinforcements, cores, fillers.

at least two different types of resin to produce two different items;
Items produced must include external angles, internal angles;
concave surfaces, and convex surfaces.

Demould laminated items

2.1

safety equipment.
2.2
Laminated items are produced in accordance with resources and process
specifications; and organisation policies and procedures.
2.3
Any faults are identified and remedied to ensure that item meets specification.
2.4
Resources are handled according to safety data sheet recommendations and
the code of practice.
Outcome 3
Prepare for finishing of product to specifications.

3.1
Resources and equipment are prepared in accordance with the codes of
practice and work place policies and procedures.
