Outcomes and evidence requirements Outcome 1 Describe adhesives used in composites and in boatbuilding. Evidence requirements 1.1 A range of adhesives are described in terms of their suitability for typical composite and boatbuilding applications. Range suitability – bonding different material types, durability, practicality, cost, cure time, clamping requirements, strength, water resistance. Outcome 2 Explain health, safety, and storage precautions for adhesives. Evidence requirements 2.1 Use of adhesives is explained in terms of general safety precautions and health implications. Outcome 3 Describe bonding preparation, types, and procedures. Evidence requirements 3.1 Bonding types are described in terms of primary and secondary bonding, surface tension, and mechanical bonding. 3.2 Surface preparation procedures are described in accordance with adhesive manufacturer’s specifications for two different adhesive types.
