Chair Report
Dr. Lazarus reiterated an appeal for an increase in the minigrant funding. Jason Ball indicated the budget
cycle has passed for FY10 but he has agreed to increase the minigrant funding by $5k for the upcoming
year for a total of $20k. He also indicated new funding requests from the committee for FY10 include a
new help desk staff employee and monies for research computing.
A request was made by Dr. Lazarus to move the March meeting from the 20th to the 27th. The committee

Committee Reports/Events
Minigrant Committee
Dr. Winkelmann indicated the deadline for submitting proposals for minigrant awards is closed. 12-15
projects have been submitted for review. The review committee includes Dr. Winkelmann, Dr. Joel
Olsen, Veronica Giguere and Dr. Lazarus. Minigrant winners will be posted on the ACITC website.
Resource Committee
Dr. Hohlmann completed the survey regarding the Beowulf usage. He indicated 40 people were
contacted which included current and former users and only 4 responses were received which were from
faculty. Results from those who responded indicate they need high performance computing, with
multicore machines and plenty of memory. Overall the results suggest either replacing the current system
or upgrade. Dr. Newman suggested some users might have not received the survey. Dr. Newman and Dr.
Hohlmann will meet to determine who else might need to be contacted regarding the Beowulf survey and
Dr. Newman will contact those current users who did not respond to the initial survey. Dr. Hohlmann
will make a recommendation on a replacement baseline system.
Faculty Showcase
Julie Shankle distributed evaluation results from the recent Faculty Showcase. Results indicate more
attendance and exposure is needed. Numerous announcements were sent out prior the showcase.
Discussion took place regarding how to increase attendance, combining the Faculty Showcase with the
Senior Design Showcase in April, providing lunch for participants and holding a virtual showcase. It was
recommended to hold a virtual showcase next year with the option of attending the Senior Design
Showcase in April.
