CLO
Results
We have results from 2008 CCSSE, 2009 Graduate Survey, and 2010
CAAP test – all very positive. In addition, Anne Strouth has
impressive results from using the Critical Thinking Rubric as a pre and
post in one of her courses. The Committee discussed how and with
whom to share this information. It was determined that students,
faculty/staff and the community are our target audiences and that we
should enlist Keith Stoner to get the message out.
Items on the CLO assessment schedule for 09/10 that were not
accomplished included a major revision of the Culture & Community
CLO and assessment of the Computation CLO using the test that was
piloted the previous year by John Falls.

CLO
Assessment
Schedule
Janny has begun work on the C&C CLO. The Committee
agreed to recruit members for a team at the next division
meetings.
The Committee decided to ask John Falls to attend a meeting to
discuss the future direction of the Computation CLO and
assessment.
The item on the schedule that was accomplished was CAAP testing for
Critical Thinking.
Writing (WAC) and Speech (SpAC) were on the schedule. This was
communicated to faculty last spring. These may have been completed,
but the only reports received are from Anne Strouth for CRJ.
Kate sent an e-mail today reminding Chairs and Deans that

Program Assessment Reports (PARs) (formerly 5-Column
Reports) for 2009 were due 10/15. Only CRJ has submitted
reports. PARs include WAC and SpAC results, and possibly
critical thinking results. This is a problem especially in light of
the accreditation visit next month. Everyone agreed to get the
reports in.
Deb noted that she will report the data for pre and post (first
ENG course to last ENG course) writing assessment next
month.
Information
Literacy
Kate will develop a revised schedule for the Committee’s approval.
The work to upgrade the Computer Literacy CLO to Information
Literacy has stalled. Amanda Maddock is the team leader. She has
had trouble getting team members to contribute. The next step is to
develop a rubric.
The Committee agreed to recruit members for the team at the
next division meetings.
Assessmentrelated
Discussion
Deb noted that the English Dept. is requesting that basic
computer skills be a prerequisite for ENG 101. If that comes to
fruition, then converting to a strictly “Information Literacy”
definition is more acceptable. Deb volunteered to work with
Amanda.
Members discussed issues related to embedded assessment. Points
included:
 Faculty see rubrics as something to do in addition to their
course work/grades. SUGGESTION: Hold workshops for
professional development on “how I used CLO rubrics in my
course,” “how I embedded CLO assessment in my course,” and
“how I modified a CLO rubric for use in my course.”
 An “Assessment Day” would facilitate CLO assessment,
particularly for tools such as CAAP tests. It was noted that the
Committee has proposed this a couple of years ago to no avail.
SUGGESTION: Ask Dr. Reed to attend a meeting to discuss
pros and cons.
 Cindy indicated that faculty are having their eyes opened about

Kate reminded the Committee that we have a field trip to
Owens scheduled for December 6th to investigate TaskStreams
assessment software. Robert volunteered to go (along with the
members who had previously agreed to attend).
