Learning Activities:
1. Recite the prologue.
2. Listen to/read Act 1, Scene 4 and add to drama notes
3. Introduce Promptbook
4. Begin written summary part of promptbook.
How will we tell if we’re learning it correctly?
Assessment Methods: Guided notes will be filled out with textual evidence to ensure correct
examples.
Checks for Understanding:
A written summary of Scene 4.

Materials: Textbook, Academic Vocabulary Notes Packet

Follow Up/HW: none
What are we learning?
Daily Objective: I will be able to analyze two film versions of a dramatic work and explain
how they are similar and different from a traditional Shakespearean format for drama.
TEKS/AP/Standards: ELA.9.2B Analyze the influence of mythic, classical, and traditional
literature on 20th and 21st century literature.
How will we learn it?
Learning Activities:
1. Recite prologue.
2. Go over STAAR Reading Selection #1 (#2, #5, and #7- all others in tutorials!)
3. Read/Listen to Act 1, Scene 5- use No Fear Shakespeare
4. Show the introductions to the Zefferelli and Luhrmann version of Romeo and Juliet (about
20 minutes total)
5. With remaining time, work on Promptbook major grade.
How will we tell if we’re learning it correctly?
Assessment Methods: Students have received “data” in the form of a grade on their first
STAAR reading selection.
Checks for Understanding: We will be going over three major incorrect answers on that
selection.

Materials: No Fear Shakespeare book

Daily Objective: I will be able to make inferences about the text based on my knowledge and
understanding of dramatic conventions and character development.
TEKS/AP/Standards: ELA.9.Fig19B Make complex inferences about text and use textual
evidence to support understanding.
How will we learn it?
Learning Activities:
1. Reading Selection #2 (AP Version)
2. Begin Act 2; Add to Academic Vocabulary Notes
3. Work on Promptbooks

Assessment Methods: Reading Selection #2, the AP version, is for a grade.
Checks for Understanding: First, we will do 1-2 questions from the AP practice together.

connect them to song lyrics that match the mood/tone of that scene.
TEKS/AP/Standards: ELA.9.1B Analyze textual context to distinguish between the denotative
and connotative meaning of words.
How will we learn it?
Learning Activities:
1. Students receive PowerUp laptops today.
2. Discussion Thread on The Hub: Song Lyrics Activity

Assessment Methods: Students will post their responses to a discussion thread that I will be
able to read.
Checks for Understanding: Students will be required to respond to others at least once.
