I can trace the change over time of contacts among American Indians, Africans, and Europeans. I can use chronological thinking skills to address various question stems. The Columbian Exchange Activity- Students will read articles pertaining to the causes and effects of the Columbian Exchange. Then, students will complete a graphic organizer highlighting the impact of various exchanged items on Europeans and Native Americans. *DAILY GRADE* Materials: Articles, Graphic Organizer Follow Up/HW: Follow the Reading Schedule AND Study for Chapter 1 Quiz Activities: 1. Review: The Columbian Exchange- Teacher will lead the class in a review of the Columbian Exchange. 2. European Settlement of North America Activity- Students will complete an ESP chart in which they compare the characteristics of French, British and Spanish settlement. 3. Writing Skills: Question Stems- Students will review question stems for APUSH essays. 4. Writing Practice: Short Answer Questions- Teacher will provide background information on structure of AP Short Answer questions. Then, students will practice answering sample AP Short Answer questions. 5. Chapter 1 Quiz- Students will answer 15 multiple-choice questions reviewing information covered in Chapter 1 of their textbook. *DAILY GRADE* Materials: Sample questions, Quiz Follow Up/HW: Follow the Reading Schedule AND Study for Assessment #1 Friday Activities: 1. Six Degrees of Separation Activity- In groups, students will be provided with 2 dates: 1491 and 1607. Students must select 6 events in chronological order that link the two dates together. Each group will share their choices with the class and defend their selections. 2. Assessment #1– Students will complete a short answer based assessment that will test their knowledge of Period 1.
