In-Class Discussion
Divide the class into teams of three to four students.
You are a strategic planning task force at your university. You must identify trends and
how they will affect the university and its human resources needs. The team has already
identified a partial list of trends (please see table on page 22-Experiental Exercise ‘HRM
As a Strategic Partner’).
Expand the list of “Critical Issues” and complete the other two columns in the table.
Present your team’s conclusions to the class.
When the teams have had time to discuss their responses, consider the following
questions:
1. Which environmental trend would have the greatest impact on the human
resource needs of the university ?
2. What environmental change will be the most difficult for your HR group to
manage ?
3. Overall, how will this combination of trends affect your university ?
