Fifth Grade News Captain James E. Daly, Jr. Elementary School April 2016 Mark Your Calendar 4/4-4/15- Family Life and Health 4/8- End of 3rd Marking Period 4/14- Report Cards Distributed 4/26- NO SCHOOLElection Day 4/28- Arts Night Writing The 5th graders will be doing research into careers. They will also be working on questions for interviews. The two skills will be used with our career day which was on March 23rd. Students asked our presenters meaningful questions about their careers in order to attain information about those jobs. They will then research a career they would like to pursue in order to Read All About It! Please note that students do not enter the school building in the morning until 9:05 am. Please do not send your child to school before 9:05 am, as we do not have the staffing to supervise them before this time. Thank you for your help in this matter. Birthdays are to be celebrated in the cafeteria only. Please remember, only store bought cupcakes are permitted. Parents must stay and serve cupcakes to your child’s class only. We will understand such terms as credit and debt and how they work in society. Students will also continue to study careers by comparing careers from the past to the present as well as what careers may look like in the future. They will analyze how technology and transportation has changed careers in the world. Science Students will be using microscopes to study microorganisms. They will identify and compare animal and plant cells using characteristics of both. They will also be learning how genetics are passed from one generation to the next. Reading Students will be using informational text and works of fiction during the month of April. We will be working with the students on their responses to their reading. We will be looking for students to give evidence, quotes, and examples from the text in the responses. Please continue to make sure your students are reading for at least 20 minutes every night. The students have the month of March to complete their required reading. The expectations are that the students will read at least 6 books and write short summaries about each of them that theyAltamirano: can share with their Mr. classmates.
