Members present: Glenn Klein, Mike Rainbolt, David Eiseman, Kathy Meddaugh, Gary
Tiedeman, Bill Brennan, Erin Haynes, Laura Nichols, Ken Krane and Nancy Evans
President Ken Krane called the meeting to order at 10:00am. On behalf of the OSURA Board,
he expressed appreciation to Laura Nichols for her work on this years University Day.
The minutes of the September 15, 2006, meeting were sent electronically to the Board and
approved at this meeting.
The treasurer’s report was given showing, as of October 1, 2006, the following balances:
State Account – $7,671.45 (This account was previously named the Provost account)
Foundation Account $11,578.80
Old Business
Golf tournament report: Bill Brennan reported that the committee met on October 13 and
reviewed this year’s event. It was a great success. Income this year was $1,755. Expenses
totaled $1,707. The chair for the 2007 tournament will be Glenn Klein with the following
members of the committee: Bob Wess, Ted Anderson, Tony VanVliet, Harold Hunter and Gary
Meddaugh. Recommendations were made for more food to be ordered, perhaps serve appetizers
earlier, change date to Thursday, give awards for low net & low gross, have the tournament open
to entire OSU community, also have registrations and checks go directly to Laura’s office.
OSURA talent show: Gary Tiedeman reported that the committee continues to meet. Possible
dates being considered are March 24, 25, 30 or 31. The Committee will lock in the date.
LBCC Travel Film Series: There will be no breaks in costs therefore the topic was dropped.
Scholarship committee report: The committee met on October 9 and Ron Lovell presided as
chair. A draft of the application packet will be ready in early January. The application deadline
will be March 30 and the scholarship awarded at the May annual meeting. The possible amount
is $1,000. Also may be possible to have 2 or 3 recipients.
There was discussion about having the scholarship monies held in an endowed account with the
Benton County Foundation. Bill Wilkins and Luanne Lawrence both were negative about this
idea. We will stick with the OSU Foundation and perhaps have a targeted account called the
“OSURA Scholarship” with an endowed amount of $25,000.
Member Services committee report: Gary Tiedeman reported that the committee has met and
that Bill Wilkins is the chair. President Ken Krane gave the committee an orientation and
emphasized that the purpose of the committee was not to be “retirement plan” advisors. The
committee is looking into presenting programs entitled “Identity Theft” and “Privacy & Security
on the Computer” possibly in January.
Discussion followed regarding establishing a policy relating to budgets and modest expenditures
for OSURA committees. It is the goal of the Board to be supportive of committee activities. The
Board agreed on the following:
Any expense over $100 will need to be approved by the OSURA Board meetings or a
vote polled by email. If time is critical, the President will be contacted and with his/her
approval, will send an email to Board members asking for approval of any expense in
excess of $100.
Diversity book club: The fall schedule has been published. The winter and spring schedule for
book reviews is being drafted and perhaps there may be a particular book related to gerontology
issues and a reader who could lead a review. A date will try to be secured.
New Business
Orange shirts: More shirts for the volunteers are being ordered in the polo style. Laura is taking
care of this and at $14 each the approximate cost is $500.
Orange cards: Starting in January or February contacts will be made for listings on the 2007-08
cards. The focus should probably be restaurants.
Board vacancy: A list of nominees was passed out to the Board members. Ken will make a
contact of the 4 names suggested.
Retirement web site: “LifebalanceOSU” is a website that we were encouraged to look at. There
could be possible links to workshops. Kathy Meddaugh and Member Services committee will
look into this.
Nominating committee: David Eiseman will chair the committee. Send suggested names of
potential board members to him.
