Summary Statement: State the major function(s) of the position and its role in the university. The Specialist, NSBDC Clients, supports the management and operations of the statewide services of the Nevada Small Business Development Center (NSBDC) at the University of Nevada, Reno (UNR). The position contributes to NSBDC by managing client intake processes, providing basic counseling services, implementing client follow-up processes, and internal coordinating of services. The Specialist reports to the Director, Small Business Consulting under the NSBDC. 2. List the major responsibilities, including percentage of time devoted to each. Provide enough detail to enable a person outside the department to understand the job (percentage first with heading and then bulleted information). 45% - Manage Client Intake Process Create, manage and improve intake process Oversee students and staff in initial intake process with NSBDC counseling and training clients and clients of partner agencies, i.e., U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA), Service Corps of Retired Executive (SCORE), small business owners and entrepreneurs, etc. Assess and understand needs of NSBDC counseling and training clients and match with correct SBDC resource and counselor Manage client referral process (including other statewide offices and specialty programs) 35% - Client Counseling Services Develop tools to support inquiries from entrepreneurs and business owners. Assess inquiries for handling or internal referral Disseminate information to NSBDC counseling and training clients Disseminate follow-up information, from other counselors and own research, for NSBDC counseling and training clients Work with NSBDC counselors and training staff statewide to ensure extended, direct, timely, and relevant follow-up with clients Provide overview of services and information to current or potential clients who contact the NSBDC office 10% - Client Scheduling Assess inquiries for program services, assist client with solutions or answers to questions, and/or refer to NSBDC counselors Schedule initial and follow-up client meetings with counseling and training counselors Coordinate State, Reno, and volunteer staff resources 10% - Internal Services Coordination and Staff Training Develop, improve, and conduct training and orientation on SBDC program practices and procedures for 10+ students on business internships who change each semester/school year Coordinate, develop, and maintain various internal communications through listservs for students, Reno SBDC, and statewide staff Disseminate State and Reno policies and procedures Ensure continuous coverage of front office by students during absence of staff Position Description – Specialist, NSBDC Clients Page 3 3. Describe the level of freedom to take action and make decisions with or without supervision and how the results of the work performed impact the department, division and/or the university as a whole. The Specialist works within a well-established framework with varying deadlines and plays TM an active role in day-to-day procedures with frequent coordination and reprioritization of activities. The individual coordinates internships and statewide staff training, conducts client counseling and develops procedures. The individual handles multiple tasks and is expected to consult with the Director if difficulties are encountered. Inadequate performance would result in delays and inefficiency in the administration of the NSBDC and its projects as well as client dissatisfaction with NSBDC services. Miscommunication of information to clients would negatively reflect on the reputation of NSBDC and the university. 4.
