1. Summary Statement: State the major function(s) of the position and its role in the
university. Attach an organizational chart with positions, ranges, and names for the division
which reflects the position in it as well as those supervised in the department. (This section is
used for advertisement of the position.)
The NSBDC Client Specialist (Southern Nevada) supports the management and operations of the
Nevada Small Business Development Center (NSBDC) program through its delivery system in
Southern Nevada. Specifically, the position provides NSBDC client coordination, manages client intake processes, provides basic counseling services, implements client follow-up, and coordinates all
business assistance services provided through the NSBDC network in Southern Nevada and other
NSBDC partners (for example, Nevada Micro Enterprise Initiative, Nevada Procurement Outreach
Program, SCORE, Urban Chamber of Commerce, and College of Southern Nevada). The Specialist
reports to the Director of Southern Nevada Operations under the NSBDC, University of Nevada, Reno
and the position is housed in the City of Las Vegas business incubator, managed by the Urban
Chamber of Commerce.

45% - Manage Client Intake Process
 Create, manage and improve intake processes
 Oversee students and staff in initial intake process for small business/entrepreneur counseling
and training clients for NSBDC and partner agencies
 Assess and understand needs of NSBDC and partner counseling and training clients and
match with correct resources
 Manage client referral process to NSBDC statewide offices and specialty programs and
partner organizations
 Coordinate Individual Development Plans (IDPs) for incubator tenants
35% - Client Counseling and Training Services
 Develop tools and resources to support inquiries from entrepreneurs and business owners. l
 Coordinate research within the office to disseminate information to counseling and training
clients
 Work with area counselors and training staff statewide to ensure extended, direct, timely, and
relevant follow-up with clients
 Provide overview of services and information to current or potential clients who contact the
office/incubator
 Coordinate business training, with the State Training Director and other resource partners
 Assist with marketing events and services
10% - Client Scheduling
 Assess inquiries for program services, assist client with solutions or answers to questions,
and/or refer to NSBDC counselors
 Schedule initial and follow-up client meetings with counseling and training counselors
 Coordinate location and area resources
10% - Internal Services Coordination and Staff Training
 Develop, improve, and conduct custom training and orientation on program practices and
procedures for student internships
 Coordinate, develop, and maintain various internal communications through listservs for
location partners and area staff

Disseminate location policies and procedures
Ensure coverage of office during absence of staff
3. Describe the level of freedom to take action and make decisions with or without
supervision and how the results of the work performed impact the department, division and/or
the university as a whole.
Level of Freedom:
The Specialist works within a well-established framework with varying deadlines and plays an active
role in day-to-day procedures with frequent coordination and reprioritization of activities. The
individual coordinates internships and statewide staff training, conducts basic client counseling and
develops procedures. The individual handles multiple tasks and is expected to consult with the
Director of Southern Nevada Operations if difficulties are encountered.
Impact:
Inadequate performance would result in delays and inefficiency in the administration of Southern
Nevada NSBDC operations and its projects as well as client dissatisfaction with NSBDC services.
Miscommunication of information to clients would negatively reflect on the reputation of NSBDC and
the university.
