Summary Statement: State the major function(s) of the position and its role in the university. The Director, Nevada Geriatric Education Center (NGEC), works to oversee and implement the NGEC grant objectives and other NGEC activities as developed. The individual is responsible for stimulating interest in and developing geriatric educational programs and services targeted to university staff, community health care professionals, agencies, organizations and others involved in the aging network and those working to address geriatric education needs. The Director ensures NGEC grant and contract objectives andother activities are achieved and submits progress and final reports. The incumbent compiles needs assessments, outcome evaluations, and other data for reporting purposes and provides supervision of NGEC faculty and staff. The individual assists in securing funding for NGEC programs by preparing grants or contracts, pursuing unrestricted eduational grants, and identifying partners to reduce expenses and support functions. The Director reports to the Program Director, Area Health Education Center (AHEC). 2. List the major responsibilities, including percentage of time devoted to each. Level of Freedom: The NGEC Director is charged with implementing the NGEC grant and contract objectives and developing the NGEC. Reports are written and submitted to the federal granting agency and other funding sources in a timely manner. Budgets must be developed and administered effectively in order to ensure a positive cash flow. Activities must be coordinated with community agencies and health care professionals, NSHE administrators, faculty and staff. Programs and meetings will be conducted to promote the NGEC efforts throughout the state. A personable yet discerning manner along with effective and prompt follow-through is essential to overall program development. Activities must be well-organized and meet the mission of the NGEC and the University of Nevada School of Medicine. Impact: The actions of the NGEC Director reflect back to the AHEC department, the School of Medicine, UNR and NSHE on a community and national level based on job responsibilities and interactions as noted above. 4.
