Patrick Flockhart

Patrick was born in Aberdeen and raised in/near Edinburgh. He has attended Aberdeen,
Robert Gordons and Cranfield Universities and speaks Chinese and French. 1st went to
China in 1985, as could not get a job in Scotland. Stayed there for 18 months and then left
and eventually joined British Steel as a graduate trainee aged 25 1/2.
Worked in Europe, Taiwan and USA. Co-founded Steel Business Briefing in 2001, which he
ran for 10 years, before selling it as The SBB Group to McGraw Hill in July 2010. SBB was a
news, prices, data, conference an training business focused on the steel and associated
raw materials sector, though latterly were also doing gas and also providing specialist price
series for steel and Iron ore forwards. By the time we sold the business we had grown it
from zero to the market leader in the sector. Currently between jobs.
