Gate Security System for ArcelorMittal Team 7 Trevor Emerick | Bingyang Wu | Lauren Poole Jazmine Gaymon Overview ▪ ▪ ▪ ▪ ▪ ▪ ▪ ▪ Background Problem Customer Needs Current System Conceptual Design Proposed Design Risk Budget ArcelorMittal Largest Steel Producer in the World (Formerly Mittal Steel) 93.6 million tons of Crude Steel (in 2012) 38% of America’s Steel 46% of Europe’s Steel 16% of Other regions Steel Focus Points Recycling • Most of their product comes from metal that was purchased as scrap and melted down Safety • On and off the job (i.e. texting and driving) • End every meeting addressing some sort of safety concern Executive Summary Problem: The current problem ArcelorMittal has been faced with is the lack of security at the front gate. They currently experience large traffic jams, on the main road, during peak hours of operation. Solution: Develop a gate security system that provides not only security, but safety for their employees, visitors, contractors and truck drivers. This system will be efficient and provide a way for the safety engineers to verify who is on site if a dangerous situation occurs. Current Traffic Flow Rates Semi Trucks Steel Purchasers: 45 trucks (6am - 1pm) Scrap Drop Offs: 70 trucks (7am - 2:30pm) Raw Material & Parts Service: 45 trucks (6am - 2pm) Employees 58 Full Time Salaried Employees (7am - 4pm) 292 Steel Mill Workers (12am-12am) *Average amount of gate traffic per day. Customer Needs New gate design to replace current aging design Current design is unsafe and unreliable Camera to take pictures of employees when entering Know what the employee looks like in case of emergency QR Code system for contractors, visitors, truckers Currently takes 5-10 minutes when these outside employees visit QR codes can drop this time tremendously . Current System Very outdated Truck drivers have to exit trucks to obtain tickets to pick up shipment Only two guards on duty One that directs traffic and one that checks in drivers This can get very hectic, very quick No database of employees, visitors, contractors or truckers on site in case of emergency Proposed Design Solution Design Ranking Arduino Yun Microcontroller Efficient Easier to create scripts and small apps Communicates with Web Services through existing APIs Raspberry Pi Microcontroller Faster Arm Processor and GPU In-home entertainment Cheaper Risk Analysis Risk Event Performance Cost Schedule High Gives access to unauthorized people Jeopardizing company information and employee safety Potentially high At least delay of a week Malfunction on Employees’ late the program or to work motor system Limited cost due to loss in working hours Delay of a few hours/ or a few days Failures on camera system or small damages on device Small due to low device cost Delay for a few days for ordering parts Medium Low Fail to capture picture Design Day Budget (Small Scale) Components Estimate Cost Arduino Yun $75.95 Servo Motor $13.99 Logitech HC Webcam C310 $32.12 Total: $122.06 Questions?
