In reading, we talked about how to determine messages from poems.
Poets use their title, opening and closing line or a repeating line to give
readers a clue. We also discussed the importance of reading all the lines
of a poem to get a true feeling of the message. Our class has started
reading Charlotte’s Web together. Throughout the book we will be
concentrating on comprehension skills, as well as, completing different
activities.
Early Release
We began to edit our pieces. The students fixed their spelling,
capitalization, and punctuation errors.

Math:
Friday, May 27
We are finishing up Module 11 with standard algorithm subtraction.
The students are very excited to be able to finally use the standard
algorithm to subtract. We will be finishing Module 11 next week with a
test on Tuesday and starting our final module.
Social Studies:
This week the students visited each of the third grade classrooms and
learned about events or turning points in Illinois history. Ask them to
share about the Chicago Fire, the steel plow, Lincoln/Douglas debate
and/or the Chief Blackhawk War.
