People credited with this unit standard are able to demonstrate knowledge of: chemicals used for, and objectives of, leather finishing; leather finishing methods and equipment; and leather finishing performance testing. Credit Merit evidence is required of four of the following – fashion aesthetics, colour, gloss, feel, defect concealment, flexibility, rubfastness, colour fastness, wear resistance. evidence is required of two others. Outcome 2 Demonstrate knowledge of leather finishing methods and equipment. Evidence requirements 2.1 Leather finishing applications are described in terms of the composition of each finish coat and its purpose. 2.2 Leather finishing application methods are described in terms of the procedures used. Credit Merit 2.3 evidence is required of two, which may include but are not limited to any of – padding, spraying, roller coating, foil laminating. evidence is required of one other. Leather finishing application machines are described in terms of their key constituent parts. Credit Merit evidence is required of one of the following – padding machine, sprayer, roller coater. evidence is required of one other. Credit Merit evidence is required of four, which may include but are not limited to any of – light fastness, rub fastness, scuff resistance, finish adhesion, flexibility, heat resistance, water penetration. evidence is required of two others.
