Literacy
-We finished the Launching unit and
started working on the Fiction unit in the
Schoolwide genre study.
-We read and re-read James Marshall’s
version of Goldilocks and the Three
Bears and talked about setting,
characters, and story sequencing as
elements in fictional texts.
-We read A Balloon for Isabel and
learned that fiction texts often have a
problem and a solution.
-We read Could Be Worse! and learned
that some fiction books are realistic,
and some are fantasy, Some are both!
Math
-We are working on
comparing
quantities and on
the concepts of
greater than and
less than.
-We are working on
subitizing (the ability
to quickly identify
the number of
items in a set
without counting)
-Your child will be
bringing home a
Kindergarten Math
Kit soon…more
information to
come!
Writing
We are having a great time in Writers’ Workshop! This
week we were introduced to some new writing
choices, including postcards, recipes, and lists. We are
working hard to listen for the sounds we know, use
our word wall words, and draw detailed illustrations to
match our pictures.
Science & Social Studies
-We have been talking about families and the
things we like to do together.
-We are beginning to learn about the first
Thanksgiving. We will learn more next week.
Report Cards
Your child’s first trimester report card will be coming home next Thursday. I am so proud
of ALL of the children for the progress they have made since we started school on that
hot August day! Many children are at the “learning skill” stage at this point of the year for
many of the introduced skills. There are also quite a few skills that we have marked NI
(not introduced) at this time. Some of these skills have been introduced and practiced, but
the children have not yet been assessed on their progress in these areas. I am looking
forward to meeting with you in the next couple of weeks to further discuss your child’s
days in kindergarten.  Please let me know if the time on the reminder sheet you received
no longer works for you.
Friendship Feast
Please see the attached
note about our Friendship
Feast on November 24th. We
will be feasting with Mrs.
Ahne’s class in the morning

will be fun to spend some
time with our kindergarten
friends in the other

Coats, and Boots, and Snow Pants…Oh My!
Please continue to work on getting winter gear on and off independently, including
buttons, zippers, boots, snow pants, scarves, gloves, and mittens. When it becomes
time to wear snow boots, please be sure to send an extra pair of shoes that your
child is able to put on him or herself. We spend a lot of time sitting on the floor, so
we like to keep wet boots in the hallway. Some friends are also practicing turning
sleeves “right side out”. I appreciate your help! 
