Math Replacement News April 29th, 2016 Third Grade Third grade students explored symmetry with transparent mirrors. They found lines of symmetry and connected the concept to adding/subtracting signed numbers. Students investigated 3D shapes, area, perimeter and volume later in the week. Fourth Grade Fourth grade students reviewed pan-balances and solved one-step equations this week. They also investigated how the x and y-coordinates connect to “what’s my rule” problems. Students found rules and graphed them on a coordinate grid. A test is scheduled for next week. Fifth Grade Fifth graders explored the concepts of proportions and ratios this week. They used the cross-products and pre-algebra strategies to solve proportions.
