Math Problem Solving Solving Word Problems Strategy: Solving Word Problems- Math Appropriate Grade Level: 1-12 Procedures/Steps: This is a seven-step process to use when teaching different age and ability levels how to solve word problems. 1.) Go back to the word problem’s question and ask yourself, what are they asking for? 2.) Get rid of any extra data. 3.) Look for and identify the key words. 4.) Identify the essential numbers. 5.) Think it through again; what is it that they are asking for? 6.) Solve the problem using paper and a pencil. 7.) Always ask yourself, does my answer make sense?
