Gifted and Talented Advanced Learning Plan Student/Teacher Conference Purpose of these conferences: Students and Teachers will collaborate in order to determine an appropriate and challenging goal for GT students in their area of strength. These goals will be recorded on the Advanced Learning Plan. Some helpful tips: Have a copy of your schedule with times of classes. Have rosters for each class. Have copies of student goal sheets (color paper if that helps) Look at goal sheets before conference. When determining student goals: Consider when the goal will be completed. Only write one goal per academic area (area of concern in Exceed). The goals can have multiple parts. Be specific about what student will accomplish or do. Consider at least one intervention you will provide in class or in a small group setting that will help the student accomplish his/her goal. o Acceleration – Pace of instruction o Acceleration – Content/Single Subject Area, grade-skipping, pace o Tiered Instruction – modifying assignments to be more complex, but maintaining focus on essential learning o Curriculum Compacting (Pre-test with option to opt out of unit) o Independent study – this would be a tier 3 intervention and requires careful planning between student, parent, and teacher o Enrichment – (be specific, this could be an ELO) o Ability/Readiness Grouping (within class) o Interest grouping – grouping students based on their expressed interests o Learning Contracts – supplements some of the other interventions here. Helps support and give structure to more independent work. o Refer to longer list for more options
