Non-Agenda Items
Paul Cummings – Music Professor at HSU – Mr. Cummings came to praise the music programs held at our schools. He would like the district to look at its vision for the program. Mr.
Cummings has concern that there are not enough band opportunities for students once they come to the high schools. He would like to see a more comprehensive, well-rounded music curriculum with choir, band, and orchestra offered at both campuses.
Judy Scharnberg – North Coast Music Educators Association President – Ms. Scharnberg shared her concerns with the district music program. With both music teachers leaving, she would like to see more involvement with the feeder schools to offer a K-12 continuum of curriculum in our communities.
Abby Munro-Proulx – former AHS parent – Ms. Monroe-Proulx came to also endorse bigger opportunity for students in our music programs.
Fred Tempas – former parent and teacher – Mr. Tempas feels it’s time to balance the music programs. Mr. Tempas would like to see equal opportunity for all students in our district. He would like to see choir, band, and orchestra offered on both campuses. Not shared courses.
Chris Jioras – Parent of incoming freshman –Ms. Jioras would like to ensure we continue to offer a wonderful music program and hopefully enhance it.
Malia Josang – AHS Parent – Ms. Josang would like to see our music programs continue to thrive.
Laura Arrington – Jacoby Creek School Music Teacher – Ms. Arrington came to represent her students and parents. They are concerned that the music program could fall apart if someone not as dynamic as Ms. Jacobson is hired.
3.3 Agenda Items
Individuals will have an opportunity to speak on items on the agenda before Board discussion on that item. Individual speakers shall be allowed three minutes to address the Board on each agenda item. The Board shall limit the total time for public input on each item to twenty minutes.
Rosemarie Butler – Former MHS Parent – Ms. Butler wanted to speak about the MHS IB program. Her student graduated in June 2014. She feels that the IB program uses a lot of the school’s resources but only a limited number of students are benefiting from the program.
Ms. Butler would like the school to see how students are doing after high school and how this program has benefited them after high school.

5.5 IB/AP Program Presentation
MHS Principal Roger Macdonald shared that he has heard both positive and negative comments from community members and staff regarding the IB program. The administration and counselors are listening to staff, parents, and students to improve the program. Roger shared that they are working on counseling the students better to determine what degree the program fits them. The courses are more inclusive to all students, not just IB diploma students. They are rotating the courses every other year so that there is an extra section available to the students. The IB curriculum has the expectation of students to do community oriented projects. Next year is the five-year program review and Mr. Macdonald invited anyone to participate in the review.
AHS Principal Dave Navarre shared that AP are rigorous courses offered to students. Staff put in extra time training for the AP courses. AHS offers 17 out of the possible 30 College
Board AP courses. There are well over 200 students that take the AP tests each year. If they pass the exam they receive college credit. These courses teach time management.
