Principal’s Message
We only have two months left of school, yet have so much work to do. Our 4 th & 5th grade students took some
of their STAAR tests this week. The next major round of testing for 3rd-5th grade students will take place in
May. Although the district has revised the Promotion Standards for this year and removed some of the
requirements, this does not remove the teachers’ or school’s accountability expectations set forth by the state’s
testing agency, the Texas Education Agency (TEA). Therefore, it is extremely important that you and your
child work closely with us to ensure they work hard and do their best each day.
Students in the lower grades also have expectations to meet. Our PreK students must meet the Reading and
Math standards set forth by our district’s Early Childhood Department. Our kinder through second-grade
students will continue working hard through the end of year, especially in Reading to develop and enhance
their reading abilities so they can improve their reading levels. Our students have been participating in several
reading programs to earn some incentives while practicing their reading. Next month, we have some exciting
opportunities for our students to continue working on their reading and writing skills. It is our hope that our
students will not stop reading during the summer months.
Let’s finish strong these last few months! Your continued support is important for your child’s success. This
means making sure your child is here each day, is on time, and is ready to learn. The last month will be filled
with celebrations and other events which will wrap up the year. As much as we want you involved in these
activities, we also need you to work with your child to ensure he/she is working in class, demonstrating
appropriate & acceptable behavior each day, and complying with his/her teacher’s expectations in the
classroom. School rules and expectations will continue through the last day of school. This means school
uniforms must be worn each day unless you receive written notice from us.

Community Involvement & Support
Counseling Partnership with Vecino Health Clinic- We recently received approval from our district’s legal department to partner with, at no cost to us,
Vecino Health Clinic. Teachers and other school personnel will be able to make referrals. Any parents interested in referring their child and/or family can do so.
See our school secretary for a referral form which must be completed. Once done, the form will be shared with the counselor at Vecino, who will then reach out
using the contact information included on the form. These referrals aren’t limited to a particular behavior. There is a list of behaviors you can choose from such
as peer relationships, academic performance, anxiety, and much more.

improve discipline, safety, and interactions on campus. It will require a lot of work on our end as a school, but it also asks for your input as stakeholders. Please
mark your calendars so that you can assist us by completing a Parent Survey from April 11-22. More information will be forthcoming.
Boy Scouts- The Scroggins Boy Scouts participated in the Pinewood Derby Races-Antares District on March 5th at Martinez Elementary. Congratulations to

is a very beneficial, and much-needed resource. Our teachers and students will get a lot of use from them. Thanks to our librarian, Mrs. Reed, for securing this
donation.
