The Hail, Holy Queen
Hail, holy Queen, Mother of Mercy! our life, our sweetness,
and our hope! To thee do we cry, poor banished children of
Eve; to thee do we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping
in this valley, of tears. Turn, then, most gracious Advocate,
thine eyes of mercy toward us; and after this our exile show
unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb, Jesus; O clement, O
loving, O sweet Virgin Mary. AMEN

This month we will celebrate the virtue of
acceptance. The virtue of ACCEPTANCE means we accept ourselves and
others just the way we are. God created all of us in His image, and God
does not make mistakes. Being a part of God’s family means that we love
and welcome everyone just the way Jesus did. Sometimes we find ourselves in situations where it is easier to follow the crowd than to stand up
for what we know is right. However, Jesus wants us to accept everyone
even when it is difficult.

may be interested. We will be forwarding
more information about this change this
coming week.
Library News:
Friday, May 30th will be the last day of book circulation. We will begin the
‘book round-up’ on Thursday, June 5th.
Our Kiss ‘N Ride program needs a few reminders in order for the process to run smoothly and keep everyone safe.
following the rules of Kiss ‘N Ride.
Please make sure you are always
1. Exit the vehicle only on the right hand passenger side. To exit out the left is very, very
dangerous as thru traffic passes (sometimes quickly) on the left drive thru lane.
2. DO NOT PARK OR LEAVE YOUR VEHICLE in the Kiss ‘N Ride lanes, even if only for a few seconds.
3. If at the end of the day your child does not exit the building please do not leave your car in the
Kiss ‘N Ride lane to investigate. Park the car and we are happy to assist you in the office.
PLEASE BE REMINDED THAT YOU CANNOT PARK IN THE KISS AND RIDE LANE. (this includes leaving your car for any reason)
Please find a parking space in the school parking lot if you need to come into the building. Brampton Parking Enforcement have been to the
school as of late and are issuing tickets for violations (parking in Kiss & Ride or bus lane. Parking in drive-through lane).
SECOND TERM REPORTING:
The final term Report Card will be sent home on Wednesday, June 25, 2014. If you still wish to meet
with your child’s teacher, please phone to make an appointment for an interview!
The final school day is Friday, June 27, 2014.
SUMMER LITERACY / NUMERACY PROGRAMME FOR GR. 7&8 STUDENTS:
The Dufferin-Peel Board and Ministry, offers Elementary Summer School for Gr. 7 & 8 students who would benefit
from additional review and consolidation of skills. Students must take both Literacy & Numeracy classes! With
teacher and Principal recommendations, your child may register for these programmes. Summer School will take
place from July 2-18, 2014 from 8:30 am to 12:30 pm each day. Transportation is provided. The deadline for applications is June 6, 2014.
Please refer to the attached Information!
SUMMER SCHOOL LITERACY CAMP:
A literacy reinforcement program for students in SK- Gr.6 is available at various sites in the Board.
Teachers deliver a balanced literacy curriculum to help students build literacy skills. There is a fee for
these programs. Your child’s teacher will need to recommend your child for this camp. Please contact
your child’s teacher for more information.
SAFETY – BICYCLES, SKATEBOARDS, ROLLER BLADES, SCOOTERS ON SCHOOL PROPERTY:
Bicycle season has arrived. We remind students of the importance of following traffic safety rules. Students are
reminded that bicycles, scooters, skateboards or rollerblades must be walked on to the school grounds. All
bicycles and scooters should be chained and locked. Unfortunately, even chained bicycles can be quickly removed
by determined thieves. It is suggested that expensive or hard to replace bicycles remain at home as the school
cannot be responsible for stolen or damaged bicycles. Also a reminder to all students that the law requires that all
children wear proper bicycle helmets. Skateboards and roller blades are safely stored in the classroom and are
not to be used at recess or lunch time in the school yard.
RAZ KIDS is up and running for grade JK to 5 students.
NEW… We added grade five students as well.
From all accounts it seems to be a ’smashing’ success. Students are becoming engaged with the online reading
program and parents are having a blast watching their children read...read...read... Keep up the great work
students! Parents may register to send messages as well as monitor their child’s reading progress. Just click on the
parent register box. It can be found on the page your child opens when they first log into the program. If you
encounter any problems please call us at the school and we can assist. We thank the School Council once more for
bringing this great reading tool to our school community. WELL DONE VIKINGS!
A REMINDER: The school day begins at 9:00 a.m. Please be mindful that your child should be at school prior to the
bell so that she/he can follow the class routines for entry into the school. When your child is late for school, he/she
will be missing teacher instruction and morning routines that can disrupt their learning.
The school day ends at 3:30. We would ask that you refrain from picking up or signing out your child prior to the bell,
unless it is for an appointment. JK/SK students will be dismissed from the kindergarten yard. Please, do not enter the
school to pick up your JK/Sk child. Teachers will be busy dismissing children from the JK/Sk school yard exit. This is the
area where your child should be picked up after the school day. All other students are dismissed at the back of the
school.
Thank you for your assistance.
Issue #2
May 11, 2014
Hi there! It's time for more Vanier Voice!
This time I'm reporting on the Science Fair that recently took place at our school.
The Science Fair was held on Tuesday May 5th, And it was put on by the intermediate
students, who are the grade 7's and 8's. The topics varied from plants to electricity to
many other fascinating topics! The students from kindergarten to grade 6 came down to
the gym, where the fair took place, to see all of the experiments and learn about things
that they never really thought about. The intermediates were both excited and nervous
about the fair. Out of all of the projects presented, three of the groups would win first,
second and third place. Who would win? Who would come close to winning? But, over
all the stress, many had fun. The younger students really seemed to like the experiments,
and everyone did a great job. Even the parents and teachers who went to the fair were
impressed! The fair was a great success, overall! But the only thing is, who will win? The
results haven't been released yet, but they will arrive soon. Me and the others who took
part in the fair can't wait to find out! Good luck to all my colleagues!
Thanks for reading the "Vanier Voice" column, and I hope you stay tuned for the next issue! -Naomi Benedict-Minister of Communication
