MAY is the month of MARY
0 Virgin Mary, My Mother. I give to your
Immaculate Heart, my body and my soul, my
thoughts and my actions. I want to be what you
want me to be, and do just what you want me to
do. I am not afraid because you are always with me.
Help me to love your Son, Jesus, with all my heart
and above all things. Take my hand in yours so I
can always be with you.
Amen

This month we will celebrate the virtue of acceptance. The virtue of
ACCEPTANCE means we accept ourselves and others just the way we
are. God created all of us in His image, and God does not make mistakes.
Being a part of God’s family means that we love and welcome everyone
just the way Jesus did. Sometimes we find ourselves in situations where
it is easier to follow the crowd than to stand up for what we know is right.
However, Jesus wants us to accept everyone even when it is difficult.

Catholic schools are Catholic
communities. Catholic schools are
faith communities. We – parents,
students, teachers, administrative
and support staff – walk and grow
together in the faith which we received at our Baptism. And it is
the ‘together’ that we grow. And
as we learn from nature, growth
relies on sun and water and nutrition.
Otherwise, it may fade away and
even die. Our growth is primarily a
relationship with God, who at our
Baptism, called us by name. But
the response of each of us to that
growth is both personal and communal. We grow in our faith in the
nurturing
atmosphere of our Catholic
community be that of our local
parish, our home, or our Catholic
school community.
Our school community will
celebrate Catholic Education
Week 2014 in ways that are appropriate to our
students’ age. We invite you to
participate in one of these activities as your personal time and
work schedule may permit.

Our Kiss ‘N Ride program needs a few reminders in order for the process to run smoothly and keep everyone safe.
following the rules of Kiss ‘N Ride.
Please make sure you are always
1. Exit the vehicle only on the right hand passenger side. To exit out the left is very, very
dangerous as thru traffic passes (sometimes quickly) on the left drive thru lane.
2. DO NOT PARK OR LEAVE YOUR VEHICLE in the Kiss ‘N Ride lanes, even if only for a few seconds.
3. If at the end of the day your child does not exit the building please do not leave your car in the
Kiss ‘N Ride lane to investigate. Park the car and we are happy to assist you in the office.
PLEASE BE REMINDED THAT YOU CANNOT PARK IN THE KISS AND RIDE LANE. (this includes leaving your car for any reason)
Please find a parking space in the school parking lot if you need to come into the building. Brampton Parking Enforcement have been to the
school as of late and are issuing tickets for violations (parking in Kiss & Ride or bus lane. Parking in drive-through lane).

SUMMER LITERACY / NUMERACY PROGRAMME FOR GR. 7&8 STUDENTS:

place from July 2-18, 2014 from 8:30 am to 12:30 pm each day. Transportation is provided. The deadline for applications is June 6, 2014.
Please refer to the attached Information!
SUMMER SCHOOL LITERACY CAMP:
A literacy reinforcement program for students in SK- Gr.6 is available at various sites in the Board.
Teachers deliver a balanced literacy curriculum to help students build literacy skills. There is a fee for
these programs. Your child’s teacher will need to recommend your child for this camp. Please contact
your child’s teacher for more information.
SAFETY – BICYCLES, SKATEBOARDS, ROLLER BLADES, SCOOTERS ON SCHOOL PROPERTY:
Bicycle season has arrived. We remind students of the importance of following traffic safety rules. Students are
reminded that bicycles, scooters, skateboards or rollerblades must be walked on to the school grounds. All
bicycles and scooters should be chained and locked. Unfortunately, even chained bicycles can be quickly removed
by determined thieves. It is suggested that expensive or hard to replace bicycles remain at home as the school
cannot be responsible for stolen or damaged bicycles. Also a reminder to all students that the law requires that all
children wear proper bicycle helmets. Skateboards and roller blades are safely stored in the classroom and are
not to be used at recess or lunch time in the school yard.
RAZ KIDS is up and running for grade JK to 5 students.
NEW… We added grade five students as well.
From all accounts it seems to be a ’smashing’ success. Students are becoming engaged with the online reading
program and parents are having a blast watching their children read...read...read... Keep up the great work
students! Parents may register to send messages as well as monitor their child’s reading progress. Just click on the
parent register box. It can be found on the page your child opens when they first log into the program. If you
encounter any problems please call us at the school and we can assist. We thank the School Council once more for
bringing this great reading tool to our school community. WELL DONE VIKINGS!
A REMINDER: The school day begins at 9:00 a.m. Please be mindful that your child should be at school prior to the
bell so that she/he can follow the class routines for entry into the school. When your child is late for school, he/she
will be missing teacher instruction and morning routines that can disrupt their learning.
The school day ends at 3:30. We would ask that you refrain from picking up or signing out your child prior to the bell,
unless it is for an appointment. JK/SK students will be dismissed from the kindergarten yard. Please, do not enter the
school to pick up your JK/Sk child. Teachers will be busy dismissing children from the JK/Sk school yard exit. This is the
area where your child should be picked up after the school day. All other students are dismissed at the back of the
school.
Thank you for your assistance.
Issue #2
May 4, 2014
Hi! I'm back for another edition of "The Voice" This time I would like to tell you about this wonderful
liturgy that we attended. Stay tuned to read all about it!
On Wednesday, we had the "Virtue of the Month" liturgy that was organized by Ms. Pizanni's class. It
was amazing! The Grade 1's told us all about the virtue of Love and how you can show love to others. It
featured a slideshow with paintings and thoughts from the first graders about what they thought love
meant, a clip from the famous movie "Frozen", and a small video of Grover from "Sesame Street" talking about love. Finally, it concluded with the well-known song, "All You Need is Love", by The Beatles.
The students all did so well in the liturgy. Then, just before we went back to class, there was a "Random
Act of Kindness" draw. Students who see someone perform an act of Kindness can have that student's
name and grade written on a paper. At every Virtue Assembly, all the names are put in a box, and a
number of names are drawn. The winners gets a small prize, and the one grand prize winner wins a
Georges Vanier t-shirt. All the winners of this month's draw were delighted to hear that they had won,
and that really got the happiness going. This whole liturgy was amazing- I can hardly wait for next
month's! I'll see you next time on ‘The Voice’ -Naomi Benedict (Minister of Communication)
At Georges Vanier Catholic school our primary students told us what was new, fun and interesting in
their class.
Kindergarten classes just received their butterfly kit. The purpose of their butterfly kit is to watch the
stages of a caterpillar turning into a beautiful monarch butterfly.
Mrs.Pizanni’s class are receiving letters stating that Rosy the Tree is calling out for help because people
are threatening to cut her down. So the class has to write persuasive letters to the people who want to
cut Rosy the Tree down.
Ms.Stranges’ class is playing badminton in gym which is very entertaining.
They also started RAZ kids to help the students improve their reading skills and the class is having a lot
of fun reading with RAZ kids. They also started poetry. The students will be presenting their poems in
front of the class and show their rhyming skills.
Mrs. Karabulut’s class will be celebrating a very important Sacrament, their First Holy Communion.
They are going into a special time where they are being brought closer to God.
Mrs.Iannizzi’s class is in preparation for EQAO. They’re also learning about the interesting historic
stories of the famous pioneers.
At Georges Vanier Catholic School we have many interesting things that the students are
learning. Mrs.Rendas class is going on an exciting class trip to Silver creek and they will
have a lot of fun.
