This month we will celebrate the virtue of
acceptance. The virtue of ACCEPTANCE
means we accept ourselves and others just the way we are. God created
all of us in His image, and God does not make mistakes. Being a part of
God’s family means that we love and welcome everyone just the way Jesus did. Sometimes we find ourselves in situations where it is easier to
follow the crowd than to stand up for what we know is right. However,
Jesus wants us to accept everyone even when it is difficult.

A literacy reinforcement program for students in SK- Gr.6 is available at various sites in the Board.
Teachers deliver a balanced literacy curriculum to help students build literacy skills. There is a fee for
these programs. Your child’s teacher will need to recommend your child for this camp. Please contact
your child’s teacher for more information.
SAFETY – BICYCLES, SKATEBOARDS, ROLLER BLADES, SCOOTERS ON SCHOOL PROPERTY:
Bicycle season has arrived. We remind students of the importance of following traffic safety rules. Students are
reminded that bicycles, scooters, skateboards or rollerblades must be walked on to the school grounds. All
bicycles and scooters should be chained and locked. Unfortunately, even chained bicycles can be quickly removed
by determined thieves. It is suggested that expensive or hard to replace bicycles remain at home as the school
cannot be responsible for stolen or damaged bicycles. Also a reminder to all students that the law requires that all
children wear proper bicycle helmets. Skateboards and roller blades are safely stored in the classroom and are
not to be used at recess or lunch time in the school yard.
RAZ KIDS is up and running for grade JK to 5 students From all accounts it seems to be a ’smashing’ success.
Students are becoming engaged with the online reading program and parents are having a blast watching their
children read...read...read... Keep up the great work students! Parents may register to send messages as well as
monitor their child’s reading progress. Just click on the parent register box. It can be found on the page your child
opens when they first log into the program. WELL DONE VIKINGS!
REMEMBER YOU CAN CONTINUE USING RAZ KIDS THROUGHOUT THE SUMMER MONTHS
A REMINDER: The school day begins at 9:00 a.m. Please be mindful that your child should be at school prior to the
bell so that she/he can follow the class routines for entry into the school. When your child is late for school, he/she
will be missing teacher instruction and morning routines that can disrupt their learning.
The school day ends at 3:30. We would ask that you refrain from picking up or signing out your child prior to the bell,
unless it is for an appointment. JK/SK students will be dismissed from the kindergarten yard. Please, do not enter the
school to pick up your JK/Sk child. Teachers will be busy dismissing children from the JK/Sk school yard exit. This is the
area where your child should be picked up after the school day. All other students are dismissed at the back of the
school.
Thank you for your assistance.
Issue #4
May 25, 2014
Hello once again! I've returned for your Vanier Voice column. This column features a
heads up for the students vs. teachers volleyball game that is coming up next week. Keep
reading to hear all about it!
Next week, there will be a student's against teachers volleyball game. It has been held
annually for quite a few years. It's always been so exciting to watch, and see the tension
building up as the ball bounces from side to side! The teachers are more experienced,
but the students are younger and have more energy! Both teams have a chance of
winning. But who will you cheer for? And more importantly, who will win? Most schools
have friendly student games of volleyball, soccer, basketball, or other sports as a school
team. But this, a game where the teachers have to prove that they've got just as much
coolness, as much agility, as much team spirit as the students in a game of volleyball- I've
never seen anything even close to that in any of the other schools! We are so lucky to
have such a grueling. I mean friendly..... competition like this! Who will win: the
experienced teachers, or the energetic students? The older teachers or the younger
students? The power-having teachers or the power-wanting students? It will all come full
circle at the match next week! I can't wait... and, I bet, neither can you!
Thanks for reading this column of Vanier Voice, and make sure to watch out for the
column in next week's newsletter, as I write about who ended up winning this tensed,
exciting game. Talk to you then!!!
