Functions
Grade 11 University Preparation
Course Overview
This course introduces the mathematical concept of the function by extending the students’ experiences with
linear and quadratic relations. Students will investigate the properties of discrete and continuous functions,
including trigonometric and exponential functions; represent functions numerically, algebraically, and
graphically; solve problems involving applications of functions; investigate inverse functions; and develop facility
in determining equivalent algebraic expressions. Students will reason mathematically and communicate their
thinking as they solve multi-step problems.

Assessment and Evaluation
The mark for the course will be based upon on-going or term work (70%) and a final assessment (30%).
The on-going or term work may include written assignments, reports, unit tests, and quizzes. Within the two
areas, term work and final assessment, marks will be assigned using the four categories specified in the Ontario
Curriculum Grades 9 to 12 Mathematics Education.

Students will be in complete uniform.
The student is to be in the class when the bell rings, prepared to work with all required materials, including
a calculator.
Students are responsible for the textbook assigned to him/her at the start of the course. If the book is lost
or stolen, the student is required to pay $80 to replace the book.
The student is to keep a complete and organized notebook with dividers to separate units.
Students are responsible for catching up on missed work and obtaining any notes/handouts.
The student will initiate the process for extra help if required.
Treat classmates/teacher the way you would like to be treated.
Should you have any questions or concerns, please contact the teacher at (905) 676-1287.
