WHEELAND’S WOLVES Friday, November 5, 2015 Important Reminders – Science test in on Monday, November 9th No School on Wednesday, November 11th Conferences will be Thursday, November 19th and Monday, November 23rd Early release on Monday, November 23rd Literacy/Reading – Our lessons the next two weeks will focus on: Using context clues and schema to determine unfamiliar words in a nonfiction text Determining the Author’s purpose and how it will help students learn more about a topic Math – We are staring module 4 next week. During the next two weeks we will work on: Adding common fractions and mixed numbers with related and unrelated denominators Adding mixed numbers with unrelated denominators and composing whole numbers Solving multi-step word problems involving mixed numbers Science – The students will take the chapter 2 test on Monday. They have a study guide and flash cards to study from. Your child can also bring his/her book home to study as well. Our next chapter will cover energy and how it moves in an ecosystem. During the next two weeks, the children will learn about producers and consumers, photosynthesis, and herbivores, carnivores, and omnivores Social Studies – The Next week, we will start reading chapter 10 in our social studies book. During the next two weeks, we will read about forming a government after the Revolutionary War, the Articles of Confederation, Shay’s rebellion, and the purpose of the Northwest Ordinance. Writing – We have finished writing our narratives! Next week, we will start exploring expository writing pieces to get us ready to write our own expository piece.
