Biomedical Engineering
Biomedical Engineering at NUI Galway is a four
year interdisciplinary degree programme, which
merges traditional engineering subjects with
biology and medicine. The aim of the programme
is to train Biomedical Engineers for future careers
in designing new medical technologies, or for
graduate education in engineering, medicine,
and science. The programme has been developed
through interaction with Medical Device
industrial partners and medical professionals.
Our students undertake an 8 month industrial
placement, during which time they work side
by side with Biomedical Engineers in the
Med-Tech sector to solve real world
bioengineering problems.
Galway city is a hub for multinational
biomedical device companies and smaller
start-up Biomedical Engineering companies,
with 38 biomed industries based in the city
region. These industrial interactions are a
significant part of our course and our students are
often employed by these companies after
graduation. There are strong links between the
programme and Universities in Europe and the
USA, and we have exchange programmes
enabling students to study at an international
University as part of their degree.

The cost of living in Galway is
