Mathematics and Education This programme has been designed to train Maths teachers. This new, re-focused curriculum aims to train students to deliver the best patient outcomes and treatments and to be ethical and caring as well as highly competent in the process. University Hospital Galway, conveniently located beside the University campus, is the major teaching hospital. All students spend one full clinical year at one of four medical academies, in Sligo, Letterkenny, Castlebar or Ballinasloe. Featured Course: Biomedical Engineering Biomedical Engineering at NUI Galway is a four year interdisciplinary degree programme, which merges traditional engineering subjects with biology and medicine. The aim of the programme is to train Biomedical Engineers for future careers in designing new medical technologies, or for graduate education in engineering, medicine, and science. The programme has been developed through interaction with Medical Device industrial partners and medical professionals. Our students undertake an 8 month industrial placement, during which time they work side by side with Biomedical Engineers in the Med-Tech sector to solve real world bioengineering problems. Galway city is a hub for multinational biomedical device companies and smaller start-up Biomedical Engineering companies, with 38 biomed industries based in the city region. These industrial interactions are a significant part of our course and our students are often employed by these companies after graduation. There are strong links between the programme and Universities in Europe and the USA, and we have exchange programmes enabling students to study at an international University as part of their degree.
