Performance Points
NUI Galway, Ireland’s leading university for the creative arts, is now offering
special performance points for students who show exceptional artistic
promise and achievement. Successful applicants will gain a bonus of 40
points when applying for entry to all NUI Galway undergraduate courses
(with the exception of GY501, Medicine).
What areas are covered? How do I Apply? What is it?
You may apply for consideration under five areas of excellence:
▶Creative Writing
▶Digital arts and media
▶Drama and Theatre
▶Film
▶Non-Fiction writing, including Journalism
If you are successful you will also be appointed a mentor associated with the
above creative arts, who will assist with your development as an artist during
your time at NUI Galway.
Applications will be accepted until 1st May each year,
with interviews before the end of June.
How to App y
Selection will be on the basis of an online application
form, a sample of work, and references.
A brief interview may also be conducted.

Complete the form online and then post a sample of your work (writing, video,
photographs, etc) and a reference from a teacher or other mentor to the address below.
Applications are accepted until 1st May each year.
Further criteria
This scheme applies to new entrants only. Applicants must receive a minimum of
350 CAO Points from a single sitting of the Leaving Certificate in six subjects, and
must achieve all minimum entry and course-specific requirements. There is no upper
age limit for application. Bonus points may not be used for access to courses with
restricted entry, such as GY501 (Medicine). Applications must be completed online
and by post. Incomplete or late applications will not be considered.

NUI Galway students have enjoyed great success in the creative arts, with several
students publishing books (novels, non-fiction, biographies), forming theatre
companies, writing scripts made into feature films, making creative documentaries
for television, developing digital media companies, being cast in major international
TV/film roles, and so on. This scheme aims to build on those successes, and to
ensure that future artists can fully develop their potential, while enjoying all that
NUI Galway has to offer.
