Self- Control
Dear God,
You have done
such a marvelous job
of creating us and
the world around us.
We come to you now
asking for grace and strength
to keep a sense of self-control.
We hope that
by remaining calm
in the middle of difficult situations,
we can contribute
to making our school a safer,
more caring, and
more inclusive community.
May your virtue of self-control
help us to make decisions
that serve the good
of all your people
in our families, neighbourhoods
and school community.
We ask this in the name of Jesus, who
lived to show us the way.
Amen.
January 2010
This month, we celebrate the
Virtue of Self-Control.
God has given us the ability to choose. We
are able to control how we react to what
happens around us.
Self-control helps us to resist the temptation
to do something that we will regret.
Self-control also helps us to resist the
temptation to do something that will harm
ourselves or others.
Each time you exercise self-control you
grow stronger in the Lord and invite peace
to settle over your life as you avoid the guilt
you may feel from having made a poor
decision.
A person with self-control…
 is patient
 knows how to wait their turn
 can calm themselves down and
think before reacting to situations
 knows how to avoid physical
aggression
(hitting,
kicking,
pushing, etc)
 can think things through
CONGRATULATIONS

Christmas Shoeboxes to Dr. Simone’s
Warehouse. Thank you to the parents who
drove our students to the warehouse.
Thank you to all those who donate hats, mittens,

ATTENDANCE VERIFICATION
Please notify the school at 905-455-1001,
before 8:30 a.m., if your child is going to be
late or absent. Pauline Vanier’s answering
machine is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a
week. This will save Mrs. Mijandrusic, our
school secretary, many hours of phone calls to
ensure your children are safe.
PUNCTUALITY IS AN IMPORTANT
LIFE SKILL - SCHOOL STARTS AT
8:30 a.m.
Please ensure that your child(ren) arrive at
school no later than 8:25 a.m. The constant
parade of late arrivals between 8:30 and 9:00
a.m. is interrupting the smooth start of morning
lessons which then have to be repeated for
those students arriving late.
COLD WEATHER
Winter weather is here! We ask that you ensure
that your child is dressed appropriately. It is our
Board’s policy that all students go out for recess.
We cannot accommodate parent requests for
their children to remain indoors, due to staffing,
supervision and facility restrictions. If your child
is not well enough to go outside, they should not
be at school. It is our Board’s policy to keep the
students indoors when the wind chill factor
reaches -25 C, as established by Environment
Canada.
Please make sure your child is
dressed appropriately.
PLAY EXPECTATIONS
CURRICULUM SUPPORT
Since the first snowfall, students have been
reminded that snow, snowballs, and kicking
snow are not allowed at school. Students have
been reminded of the seriousness of these
activities and the possible danger to the eyes
and head.
NEW this year! TumbleBooks!
We have asked the students to refrain from
sliding on the ice in order to help prevent head
and back injuries.
We have reminded students to avoid grabbing
other students and pulling students to the
ground (playing tackle & headlocks are not
permitted.) Please remind your child(ren) as
well. We want them to have fun, but to play
safely at all times.
The TumbleBookLibrary is a collection of
TumbleBooks (animated, talking picture books),
TumblePuzzles, and Tumblequizzes that
children are able to access over the internet
both at school and at home. TumbleBooks are
created from existing picture books which have
been converted to the TumbleBook format.
Some are even read by the original author. We
have been able to purchase the rights to use this
website. To access this wonderful feature from
school or home log onto:

NEXT SCHOOL COUNCIL MEETING
TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 16th
6:30 p.m.
Child Care is provided in the Kindergarten
room. All are welcome to attend.
INTERNET SAFETY
As parents, you need to be aware of your child’s
use of the home computer. As you know many
of your children are using ‘MSN’ and
‘FACEBOOK’. It is important that as parents,
you are informed as to what your child is
sending out and receiving.
Some of the
communication, as well as the contact names
that are being used, are inappropriate. Please
talk to your child about this and supervise their
use of the computer.
VISION & HEARING TESTING
For your convenience, we have arranged to
have SEE & HEAR ASSESSMENT at our
school this year to screen for vision and hearing
problems at a cost of $10.00 to the
parent/guardian on February 19th.
This is an excellent opportunity to check your
child’s vision and hearing in a convenient, cost
effective manner, as Family Doctors are not
usually equipped to identify Hearing Loss … a
Child’s Hearing is not being monitored unless
they have visited an ENT or Audiologist … a
regular visit to the Audiology Clinic is not
covered by OHIP and would cost upwards to
$35.00.
A permission form will be sent home early in
February with your child. If you wish to have
your child participate, please complete and
return the form with $10.00 to the school by
February 12, 2010.
