ACCEPTANCE
Dear God,
You have done
such a marvelous job
in creating us and
the world around us.
You have placed this creation,
including all the people we meet,
in our care.
We come to you now
asking for the grace and strength
to be accepting of others.
We admit
that we can never
fully know your plan
for the people around us.
Grant us the strength to admit
that our role
is to invite others to participate
in your saving plan,
and then to accept
the choices that they make
in their lives. Amen
May 2009
This month we celebrate the virtue of
Acceptance
One of the great wonders of the world we live in
is that no two people are exactly alike. We may
share biological families or national identity or
cultural and ethnic identity, but we are all very
unique and distinct creations.
The virtue of acceptance describes our ability to
look at the attitudes and actions of those around
us and then just stop and consider without
judging them. The virtue of acceptance means
that we look beyond what we see- a person’s
skin colour, ethnic background, religion, age,
gender, sexual orientation, and see a person
created and loved by God.
An accepting person…
 is friendly and open to all God’s people,
regardless of age, beliefs, gender,
culture or ability
 sees the positive traits in all people even
if she/he disagrees with them
 avoids judging or stereotyping others
 understands that there may be more
than one way to do things
 sticks up for the “underdog”
Let us pray for the strength to trust
that God is at work in everyone’s life
despite what we think.
EQAO PROVINCIAL ASSESSMENTS
The grade three and six students will be
participating in the EQAO provincial assessment
of literacy and numeracy.
“NO CHILD WITHOUT” PROGRAM
We ask that parents please avoid booking any
medical or dental appointments, any vacations
or avoid arranging any other general absences
for your grade three and six children during this
assessment period.
Pauline Vanier is a participant in the Canadian
MedicAlert Foundation’s “No Child Without”
Program. This is a free program for children
from JK up to their 14th birthday, living with
chronic medical conditions, allergies or special
needs to receive MedicAlert protection. Students
have a choice of identification (necklace or
bracelet) listing their medical condition and
membership number. Students also receive a
wallet card and access to the 24 Hour
Emergency Hotline. Should your child move to
another school in Canada, they are still
protected.
Please contact the school for
information or visit www.nochildwithout.ca to
learn more about the program.
DRESS CODE
PEANUT and NUT ALLERGIES
Board policy states that all students are
expected to dress in clean, neat and practical
clothing. School guidelines are:
1. the top of the pants must meet the
bottom of the shirt with no exposure of
midriff or undergarments at anytime
2. shorts and skirts must be (mid-thigh)
which are neither too tight or tattered
(they must go past the bottom of the
student’s fingertips when hands are
relaxed at their sides)
3. halter tops, spaghetti strap tops, tank
tops, muscle shirts and mesh shirts may
not be worn. Shirts must cover the top of
the shoulder
4. spandex shorts or pants, cut-off shorts,
torn or ragged clothing are inappropriate
attire for school
5. clothing with offensive, suggestive
and/or inappropriate statements or
pictures (including advertisements for
alcohol or tobacco products) are not
permitted.
6. Hats, sunglasses and sunscreen are
encouraged for outdoor wear.
School can be a very frightening environment for
a child with a severe allergy to peanuts or nut
products. In an effort to further promote a safe
and secure environment for all our children, we
ask your support in sending nut free snacks and
lunches. We must take into consideration that
these children are not isolated to any particular
grade level, and like all students, they utilize the
computer lab, washrooms, library and physical
education equipment. We thank you for your
support in helping us promote a safe
environment.
The grade three students will be writing the
assessment every morning the week of May
25th, 2009. The grade six students will be
writing the assessment every morning the week
of June 1st.
Thank you for your continued support and
cooperation for a dress code which reflects our
Catholic school environment as a place for some
serious work accompanied by standards of
sensitivity, modesty, politeness and decorum.
Students who wear unacceptable clothing to
school may be removed from class to work in
the office and/or parents will be called and
requested to provide suitable attire.
In compliance with Sabrina’s Law, students are
not permitted to eat food or drink juice outside in
the yard or on the bus. Students are permitted to
eat their snacks ten minutes prior to recess.
Water bottles may be taken outside to drink.
BREAKFAST SNACK PROGRAM
Thank you to the Boys & Girls Club of Canada
for the $5,000 to sponsor Pauline Vanier
Catholic School’s Breakfast Snack Program.
The school purchases fresh fruit, fruit cups,
granola & cereal bars that are placed in a
classroom bin and are available to students who
are hungry.
MEDICATION
Students who must bring medication to school,
or who must take regular medication during
school hours, require a form, “Request for
Storage and Distribution of Prescribed
Medications” to be filled out and signed by the
parent/guardian and the physician. It is the
responsibility of the parent/guardian to monitor
the quantity of medication stored by the school.
Students are not permitted to have medication in
their backpacks or desks as this could present
as a safety issue to other students.

The song: “Sing, Sing”, written by
