VIRTUE OF ACCEPTANCE
Principal

Vice Principal
T. De Vellis Carino
Dear God,
Secretaries
A. Charette
S. De Carli
You have done such a marvelous job of creating us and the world
around us. You have placed this creation, including all the people we
meet, in our care.
We come to you now asking for the grace and strength to be accepting of
others.
We admit that we can never fully know your plan for the people around
us.
Grant us the strength to admit that our role is to invite others to
participate in your saving plan and then to accept the choices that they
make in their own lives.
We ask this in the name of Jesus, our brother, who lived to show us
your way.

AROUND THE HALLS
RAYS OF SUNSHINE
The Rays of Sunshine keep pouring in! Here are some
rays that have been chosen to share this month. Keep
your ballots coming!
Primary students said: ―He encouraged his friends by
saying: I hope you win your soccer game.‖ Another
student said: ―She was playing with me when I had no one
to play with.‖
Junior students said: ―He picked up a juice box off the
floor and just threw it out without being asked.‖ Another
student said: ―A boy dropped his papers on the ground
and she picked them up without being asked too.‖ And,
―He moved his desk over when I needed somebody to
share a book with me.‖
Intermediate students said: ―She always compliments me
and includes me in her conversations.‖ Another student
said: ―She listens to my stories, makes me laugh and is
polite!‖ And, ―she always helps me in math whenever I
need help.‖
Staff member to staff member: ―Mrs. Beaty always lends
a helping hand to grade two’s, especially with the Frist
Communion retreat.‖ And, ―Mrs. Laratta always lends a
helping hand in the office.‖
ECO-SCHOOLS & TREE
PLANTING
The eco-school initiative is
coming to a close. The Ecoteam completed the application and reporting process
with Ontario Eco-Schools on April 30th, and it looks
like we did pretty well. Our goal was to achieve
Bronze Certification, and we may have exceeded that
and certified as a Silver School. Earth Week was
highlighted by Mr. Kozjan's class project in Grounds
Greening as the 12 saplings were successfully planted
by various classes in the school. Our waste
minimization was successful, and lots of students are
consciously making an effort to use re-fillable water
bottles and not bring purchased water to school. The
Eco-team asks that students continue to Boomerang
their organics home to their composters and try to
bring litterless lunches and snacks to school.
Thanks....from the Eco-team!
JR BOYS BASKETBALL
On Thursday April 26th, the Junior boys basketball
team played in a one day tournament held at St.
Gregory's. Congratulations to all the boys who were
fast, energetic and played very well as a team. It was
an enjoyable day had by all! The team consisted of:
Marco M., Justin.D., Jason R., Matthew M., Justin K.,
Jacob G., Owen R., Matthew.C., and Ezekiel A.
Coaches Mrs. Higgins, Ms. Corrente and Mrs. Laratta
are all very proud of the team!

approximately $575.00 for b.r.a.i.n. Child research at
Sick Kids Hospital, to be donated in Ruth's name. We
teachers only have one thing to say to students: Better
luck next year!!!
RUNNING FOR RUTH
On Thursday, May 3, students and staff participated
in "Running for Ruth", to increase awareness for
pediatric brain tumour awareness and research.
After a cheer for "Team Ruth" at a kick-off
assembly, students and staff ran and walked to show
their support for this worthy cause. All proceeds
will be going directly to b.r.a.i.n.child at the
Hospital for Sick Kids. Many thanks to the staff
and students who made this event possible. A
special thank you to the school community for all
their generous donations and support which made
this fundraiser truly successful.
ROSARIES FOR RUTH
Starting on Wednesday, May 16, bracelet rosaries
will be available for sale to all Primary students.
Our grade 8 students have kindly offered to make
and sell these rosaries. Junior and intermediate
students will also be able to purchase materials to
make their own rosary bracelets. The cost for each
rosary is $3.00 and all proceeds will go to brain
tumour research. Thank you to Mrs. Hewgill, Mrs.
Hatcher, Mrs. Buczek and the grade 8 students for
their support.
AROUND THE HALLS
KINDERGARTEN RECESS
The Senior Kindergarten students will be going out
for recess starting on Monday, June 18, 2012. This
will help them prepare for grade one. We appreciate
our older students making them feel welcome as the
big yard can be quite overwhelming for the little
ones.
WELCOME TO KINDERGARTEN EVENING
On Tuesday, May 8th, 2012, the newest and youngest
members of the St. Julia family were welcomed by
our current staff , School Council members and
other community partners. They all worked together
to introduce the school, routines and fun activities to
the students and their parents. A special Thank you
to The Learning Partnership for providing preschool children and their families with resources and
experiences to begin formal education with a
foundation in early learning that is nurtured within
the home. We look forward to seeing all the bright
new faces in September.
TALENT SHOW
Since the dawn of time humans had a dream; to create the
greatest show on Earth. Humans had this dream ever since the
first day, ever since the world was a hot dense state that nearly
fourteen billion years ago expansion started (wait!) And on
the 10, 678, 972, 439, 727, 353rd day (more specifically
Thursday May 10, 2012) The St. Julia Talent Show was
created, and the dream was discovered. The acts were
amazing, awe-inspiring, fanta-stick, mind boggling, brilliant,
winning, and Cinderella Disney movie level magical, ranging
from dancing, to instruments, to singing, to magic. A special
thanks shall be given to the creators of it all, the ones who
made the dreams come true, teachers Mrs. Lawrence, Ms.
Stypka and Ms. Hewitt. Congratulations to everyone else who
participated in the talent show! May the force be with you all,
may your dreams come true, and may the odds be ever in your
favor.
FRENCH CAFE
On Tuesday, May 8, 2012 St. Julia had it’s first
French Café. Thank you to all the teachers and
students who helped organize, make decorations,
provide entertainment and serve our guests. A special
thank you to all the paents and guests who attended
our Café. It was a great success! Merci Beaucoup!
WATER BOTTLES
As the warmer weather approaches students may
require more access to water. Students are permitted
to bring full water bottles to school. Students are
permitted to have them on their desks but are to be
used under the direction of the classroom teacher.
We have found in the past that at times students use
these for water fights in the playground. During
recesses students will continue to receive a pass so
they can come into the school for water. Your
understanding is greatly appreciated.
SHARE LIFE
The St. Julia school community has raised $1300for
Share Life through our Santa Pictures, Lenten Pizza
lunch and Shrove Tuesday. The teachers have also
contributed to Share Life through ―Casual Fridays‖.
We will be presenting St. Joseph’s Parish with a
cheque in the above amount during our Year End
Mass on Tuesday, June 12, 2012. Thank you to
everyone for your generous donations. Way to go
St. Julia!
PLAY STRUCTURE
Our play structure has been inspected and approved
for use for the new season. We have a schedule at
school for student use in order to limit the number of
students using the play structure at once. Parents are
responsible for supervising children using the
equipment after school hours.
BOOK FAIR
St. Julia hosted the last book fair of the year. The
Hawaiian theme offered an exciting time for all.
A big "kahuna" thank you to all those who supported
this event. Proceeds will help expand the library
collection.
LENTEN COLLECTION
As part of our Lenten spiritual activities each class
collected money for the Sisters of Notre Dame in
their Lenten boxes. The money is used for clean
water in the missions the sisters support. St. Julia
collected $104.42. Thanks for your support
ST. VINCENT DE PAUL
Another very successful Bundle up collection was achieved at St. Josephs church on the weekend of
April 21-22, 2012. One full sized 5 ton truck was 90% filled by late Sunday evening. Thank you to out
St. Joseph Parish school communities who donated so generously. On behalf of our neighbors-in-need
& the St. Vincent de Paul Team…a big Thank you!

our appreciation for all the support we have received
throughout the year from all our volunteers. If you
have volunteered any time this year, we would like
you to join us for a reception at the school on June
12, 2012. Invitations will go home at a later date.
Please RSVP the main office to confirm.
MOVING
Just a reminder…if you are moving before the end
of the year or over the summer please inform the
school office as soon as possible so that the class lists
may accurately reflect the number of students
enrolled. Also, if new neighbors have moved in it
would be appreciated if you could let them know that
we are accepting registrations for next September and
that they are welcome to drop by the office for a
registration package. When moving to a new school
transfer papers from your current school are needed.
The office requires a few days to process these
requests.
CURRICULUM CORNER-HELPINGYOUR CHILD
SUCCEED IN SCHOOL
1. Let your child know that you think it is important
that he/she does well in school. (Jeynes,2005)
2. Talk to your kids about school (Pelletier and
Corter,2004.)
3. Read to your child when they are young (and even
when they’re older.) (S.Langdon, J. Meyer & Shelly
P., 2004.)
4. Go to concert and sports events. (Jeynes, 2005.)
5. Read your child’s report card. (National centre for
Education Statistics NCES, 1985.)
6. Go to Parent Teacher Interviews. (Harris and
Goodall, 2007.)
These six simple steps can lead to improved attendance, I
mproved student engagement, more posiotive relationshops
between parents and teachers, and increased success overall.

To celebrate Earth Day, we’re digging up ground
And planting twelve trees, each in their own mound.
We’ll have to take care, as they are young and not strong
And if we’re too rough, the trees won’t stay for long.
The clouds will give rain, to help the roots down below
And before we all know it, to the sky they will grow.
So remember the earth, reduce, recycle and please
Be kind to our gift and take care of the trees.
Amen

In thanks for the trees donated by the City of Mississauga and for
the efforts of the teachers and students in planting them.
