February 16th, 2014 – SIXTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
Today’s readings challenge us to freely and wisely observe the laws given by our loving and caring God: in the Old Testament
through Moses and the prophets and in the New Testament through His Beloved Son, Jesus. For the Israelites the Torah was not
just a set of rules or laws but a guide to the holiness and wholeness of each believer . The first reading, from Sirach, contains the
clearest statement in the Old Testament on the God-given freedom of the human will. God is not responsible for the evil in the
world. “Before each person are life and death, good and evil, and whichever one chooses, that shall be given.” In the second
reading Paul challenges his Corinthian believers to appreciate the wisdom of God’s saving plan revealed by the Spirit. In today’s
gospel Jesus, being God and Lawgiver, gives a deeper interpretation of the Mosaic Laws on murder, adultery and false oaths.

Through the document Anglicanorum Coetibus in 2009, Pope
Benedict XVI announced a new and improved structure to allow
groups of Anglicans to become Catholic while preserving
elements proper to their tradition. Responding to the requests of
Christ’s faithful from an Anglican background, the Holy See has
established the “Ordinariate of the Chair of St. Peter” in Canada
and the United States. The Holy Father, Pope Francis, has
recently approved a definitive edition of the Book of Divine
Worship, according to which the beautiful Anglican-Use liturgy is
celebrated. This Mass for the Ordinariate’s Patronal Feast allows
us to give thanks to Almighty God for this new reality in the
Church, while also marking the third anniversary of the first
Anglican-Use Mass in Canada, which was celebrated at St. Joseph
in March 2011. Catholics of any background are welcome to
attend, as are all those who are interested in learning more about
the Catholic Church. Holy Mass will be followed by coffee in the
parish hall.
A pilgrimage is but a Spiritual journey of a devotee. It is to be in
the presence of God who is present in a Special way in the place
of pilgrimage and being thus present imparts to us generous
blessings. Therefore, I call upon the faithful to join for these ten
days journey to make an effort to see God and meet Him in
oneself and in others. Details are available in the parish office.
