February 23rd, 2014 – SEVENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME Today’s readings explain the basis of Christian morality, namely, the holiness of the loving, compassionate and merciful God. The first reading gives the “holiness code”: “Be holy, for the Lord, your God is holy.” It also teaches us the way to show God’s holiness: “Love your neighbor as you love yourself.” In the second reading St. Paul gives us an additional reason to be holy. We are to keep our bodies holy because we are the temples of the Holy Spirit and the Spirit of God lives within us. In the first part of the gospel Jesus condemns the Lex Talionis, or the law of retaliation, given by Moses. Rather than retaliate, He encourages us to love, forgive and reconcile with others, because there’s no place for retaliation in the life of a Christian. The second part of the gospel tells us to love our neighbors and our enemies even if we feel they don’t deserve it. We should love them because Jesus loves them so much and He also died for them. It is this attitude that makes Christians different from others. Our Lady of Peñafrancia LOOKING AHEAD Mar. 1 KOC – Blood Donor Clinic. Mar. 5 Ash Wednesday. Mass Times: 8am, 12noon & 7pm. The soul is the seat of the emotions and the hub of our lives, and cannot be separated from the body, family, work, love, or power. Moore claims that loss of the soul lies behind the restlessness, addiction, insecurity, and frustration of so many contemporary men and women. With lives devoid of meaning and purpose, people yearn for something to nourish their souls. In this book, Moore helps us see that we can survive and learn from our personal troubles, tragedies, and follies. Care of the Soul is an essential primer for those who want to relate spirituality to everyday life. + Ron Thomas Intentions - Andrea Pansoy + Dora Lobo + Daniel Mark Wilson + Dominga & Porfirio Grande Thanksgiving - Dr. Christina Gamo Thanksgiving - Barbara Kakarelis Thanksgiving - Shania & Leanne Netto Sat., Mar. 1 Sunday, Mar. 2 8:00am Noon 8:00am 7:00pm 9:00am 5:00pm 8:00am 9:00am 10:30am Noon 1:30pm 7:00pm Intentions - Cynthia Argoso + Restituto Yulay + Manuel Da Rocha + Julia & Judy Ayoubi + Ana Josefa Fernandes + Auxaella Vaz Intentions - Maikel Michriky + Crisostomo Alda + Cristiano Morgado + Auxaella Vaz Pro Populo Thanksgiving - Minwook Sul
