Now that the class knows the roles that government plays in our community and the responsibilities that working people have, they can successfully be a member of the Elliottville community. In the community the students: *Have a new identity, including a family *Have a job *Choose a home/neighborhood that is a good fit for their new lifestyle *Advertise their job to the other community members for the job fair *Budget their pay check, including taxes *Vote for community leaders and run for office *Give speeches *Create a plan to help with a community need In math the students have learned a few tricks of the 9 multiplication facts to help them recite the facts quicker. They are also applying their understanding of multiplication and division to multi-step word problems. During Reading Workshop, the students rotated between all the 3rd grade classrooms to learn more about figurative language. Each teacher in 3rd grade introduced a type of figurative language to the class and they participated in an activity to help clarify the meaning. The 4 types of figurative language we Book Talk focused on were: metaphors, similes, personification, and idioms. Report Cards go home March 11th. Book Talk is March 24th.
