We hope that you will be able to come and spend some time with us in your child’s classroom. For your convenience we have listed what is happening around the school. Celebrating Advent through Prayer During the Advent season we prepare our hearts and minds for the blessings of Christmas. Let us take time to celebrate the season of Advent together. Each week we come together in prayer and reflection remembering the true meaning of Christmas. You are always welcome to join us as we live out our Catholic Faith. Thursday December 04th • 9:00 Primary Liturgy prepared and presented by the grade one classes (Eby and Arena). • 9:30 Junior Liturgy prepared by Mrs. Tuzi and Mrs. Killman (grades 4 and 3/4). • 10:30 Intermediate Liturgy presented by Mrs. Gallant’s grade 7/8. Friday December 12th • 9:00 Primary liturgy prepared and presented by our grade two classes (Sparkes and Lomasney). • 9:30 Junior liturgy prepared by Ms.Humenyk and Mrs. Dunec. • 10:30 *Intermediate liturgy is moved to Monday December 15th at 10:30. Thursday December 18th • 9:00 Primary Liturgy prepared and presented by Mrs. Hayes and Mr. Torres. • 9:30 Junior Liturgy prepared by Ms. Baltazar’s and Ms. Poerba’s grade 6’s. • 10:30 Intermediate Liturgy prepared by Mr. Mowat. Wednesday December 17th Our school Christmas/Advent Mass will be celebrated by Father Jan in the school gym at 9:30 A.M. This School Mass is being prepared by our Primary classes. All are welcome to join us. Classroom Activities December Events Mrs. Fernandes The JK students will be making a Christmas craft on Wednesday December 10th at 9:00 A.M. Please plan to join us. The SK students will be doing a craft on Tuesday December 16th at 1:00 P.M. We hope to see you there. We encourage our students to be aware of the less fortunate in our community especially during the Christmas season. The Student Council is sponsoring a Food Drive. These food items and non-perishable items will be donated to “The Knight’s Table”. Mrs. Lyons On Monday December 15th the children will be making an edible Christmas craft. The parents of the students in the morning class are invited to come at 10:30 A.M. and the parents of the students in the afternoon class will be asked to come for 2:30 P.M. Mrs. Cheng-Hayward The JK students will be doing a Christmas activity on Friday December 12th. We hope that you will be able to join us! Mrs.Arena and Mrs.Eby Parents are invited to make a Christmas craft with their child in the classroom on Wednesday December 17th at 2:30. We hope that you will join us. Mrs. Hayes, Mrs. Lomasney and Mrs. Sparkes On the morning of Thursday December 18th you are invited to join your child and his/her classmates to make a Christmas craft in their classroom. The activity will begin at 9:30. Mr. Torres, Mrs. Killman, Mrs. Tuzi, Mrs. Dunec and Ms. Humenyk The above classes will be hosting craft activities in the afternoon on Thursday December 18th. It will be starting at 12:45. The students will be rotating through five activities. Parents are invited to join in the fun. Ms. Baltazar and Ms. Poerba The grade 6 classes will be doing a craft on Tuesday December 16th in the A.M. Parents are invited to join us. Mrs. Gallant, Mr. Mowat and Mrs. Trueman On the morning of Tuesday December 16th Great Canadian presentations will take place in the gym. In the afternoon the students will rotate between the three classrooms for crafts and song. You are welcome to join our intermediate students in these activities. Madame Burns and Mrs. Tuzi’s grade four class are encouraging the students at St. Bonaventure to donate an unwrapped toy for a boy or girl, new unused mitts, gloves, scarves and hats to the Giving Tree in the main foyer. When a student brings in one of these items they will receive a paper ornament, with their name, to hang on the tree as a sign of their contribution. The donated items will be distributed to a charity. Last year your generosity was outstanding and we hope that you will continue to give although economic times are much tougher this year. Christmas Shoebox Campaign Thanks to the contributions of the students and the staff we were able to donate 61 shoeboxes to ”Samaritan’s Purse”. Sixty-one children will have a Christmas! A word of thanks to the School Advisory Council for covering the cost of shipping and handling. Thanks St. Bonaventure! Way to Go! Pictures with Santa This event was very popular with families last year and this year was no different. Santa came to St. Bonaventure on Tuesday December 09th. Campion Community Christmas On Saturday December 13th, St. Edmund Campion S.S. is hosting a community Christmas for Families with children 12 and under. Tickets are available at a small cost or in exchange for at least 3 nonperishable food items. Hot Dog Lunch On Thursday December 18th the School Advisory Council is sponsoring a Hot dog lunch for our students. Order forms have been sent home. Cold Weather/Recess We are beginning to experience cold winter weather. It is imperative that students come to school prepared to participate in all activities, including outdoor recesses and the 40 minute lunch period. The only students that will be permitted to stay inside are those with a doctors’ note. We ask parents to ensure that children wear hats, scarves, gloves, winter outerwear and boots. Where possible please put identification on your child’s belongings. We also remind students to have a pair of indoor shoes or running shoes, so that the classrooms are kept as clean and dry as possible. STUDENT TRANSPORTATION OF PEEL REGION (STOPR) BUS CANCELLATIONS/SCHOOL CLOSING DUE TO BAD WEATHER 2008 – 2009 SCHOOL YEAR During the winter months inclement weather may cause disruption of bus transportation and regular school operations. A decision to cancel school transportation and/or to close schools is usually made by 6:00 a.m. and will be announced on the following radio stations: VIRGIN RADIO 99.9 CJCL 590 CJBC (FR) 860 AM 1250 FOXY 88.5 FM CITYPULSE CFTO CHUM 1050 CHFI 98.1 Z103.5 CFTR 680 CFRB 1010 93.1 FM CHIN 100.7 FM/1540 AM THE WEATHER NETWORK CFNY 102.1 EZ ROCK 97.3 CJMR/CHWO CBC GLOBAL NEWS We will be communicating one of four standard messages to the radio stations. The four announcements and their effect on the transportation system are as follows: (Please note that the highlighted text only will be communicated by the radio stations). 1. “DUFFERIN-PEEL CATHOLIC DISTRICT SCHOOL BOARD BUSES SERVING ST. ANDREW, ST. BENEDICT AND ST. PETER ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS AND R.F. HALL SECONDARY SCHOOL ARE CANCELLED FOR TODAY.” 2. “THE DUFFERIN-PEEL CATHOLIC DISTRICT SCHOOL BOARD BUSES AND THE PEEL DISTRICT SCHOOL BOARD BUSES IN THE TOWN OF CALEDON AND THE COUNTY OF DUFFERIN ARE CANCELLED”. This means that all runs listed under announcement #l PLUS the following are cancelled. • All schools in the Town of Caledon and all school runs that begin in the Town of Caledon. • Individual schools will be notified if this cancellation affects their school. 3. “THE DUFFERIN-PEEL CATHOLIC DISTRICT SCHOOL BOARD AND THE PEEL DISTRICT SCHOOL BOARD BUSES ARE CANCELLED.” This means that: ALL Transportation services provided by the Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board and The Peel District School Board, including buses, vans and taxis have been cancelled for the entire day. 4. “THE SCHOOLS AND OFFICES OF BOTH THE DUFFERIN-PEEL CATHOLIC DISTRICT SCHOOL BOARD AND THE PEEL DISTRICT SCHOOL BOARD ARE CLOSED.” This means that: ALL Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board ad Peel District School Board schools and offices are closed to all students and staff. N.B. For Secondary School students riding Public Transit, cancellation of service will be communicated by the respective transit property over the radio. Please be advised that Public Transit rarely cancels and that the level of service on days with inclement weather is unpredictable.
