Reading
When we returned from winter break, we
read the traditional tale, The Mitten, and
other winter books. We used these stories
to sequence the order of events, infer
characters’ feelings, make predictions, and
describe details n the illustrations. Also, we
began our Non-Fiction unit in our
Schoolwide curriculum by activating our
background knowledge and thinking about
different topics.
-We wrote addition
sentences, which include two
addends and a total.
(___ add ___ makes ___.)
-Using a number track, we
“jumped” one or two from a
given number to add.
-We continued to practice
recognizing the “teen”
numbers and putting them in
correct order.
-We counted by 10’s to
100.
Penguin Fun
The snowy weather has inspired us to learn about penguins! We
read many non-fiction texts to help us gather information about
these cute, black and white animals. The children did an excellent
job creating penguin crafts, writing sentences about penguins, and
discussing what penguins are, have, and can do.
Science & Social Studies
Our big idea questions in science have been, “How are day and
night different?” and “What can you observe about the
weather?” As we continue our Earth Science unit, we will
continue to learn more about the seasons and temperature.
