The Our Lady of Mount Carmel One Through Prayer and Learning November 2015 Full version @ www.dpcdsb.org/CARMS/News PRINCIPALS MESSAGE We have approached the midterm of Semester One; as usual OLMC has been an active place to be. Our students and staff continue to focus on our goals of strengthening our Catholic Graduate Expectations. Through learning and prayer we continue to make academic, spiritual and social gains. The theme of this year’s Pastoral Plan is Witnessing God’s Mercy. “A little bit of Mercy makes the world less cold and just.” Pope Francis Our community visitors often describe our Carmel students as welcoming, helpful and respectful. This is still an important piece of information for parents to know as their lessons they are teaching at home are clearly being applied here in our school. Our school year kick off started with our Terry Fox 35th Anniversary Walk/Run. Congratulations to our staff and students for generously supporting an amazing cause. Our Grade 9 Retreat and Grade 9 Social was a fantastic success giving our junior Crusaders the opportunity to be more comfortable in the building and hopefully building life-long friendships. Our Student Council and Interect Club put on our annual “Spook-tacular” event for our Halloween festivities. The very scary Haunted House in the library is always a crowd favourite as the students display their costume design, makeup and dramatic expertise. Our Dramatic Arts classes also performed their infamous rendition of the “Thriller” dance in the cafeteria. Students were highly entertained by their amazing zombie talents. Congratulations for an amazing event. Our sports teams are up and running, so to speak. As is tradition here, our student athletes continue to represent OLMC with great pride. The X-Country Team qualified for OFSAA where we sent 8 athletes to Collingwood to race. Our golfers, Tennis players, Flag Football team and Swim team have wrapped up their seasons. All teams making Carmel proud! More recently, the Boys Junior and Senior Football teams battled through their seasons to a very exciting finish, unfortunately succumbing in the semi-finals. Both teams fought to the bitter end and left everything they had on the field. Thanks to the team and coaches for their grit and hard work. Currently, our junior and senior Girls Basketball teams are playing their hearts out on the court deep into their playoffs. Good Luck Girls! The Senior Boys Volleyball team is spiking their way to the top. They played a heart wrenching semi-final game on Wednesday night. They should be proud of their amazing accomplishment and a great season. The winter sports seasons are in full swing. Check out the ROPSSAA Scores website for all team schedules and results. Go Crusaders!! Please look for the full version of the articles from this edition of the Chronicle on our school website. Please join us at our next School Council Meeting on December 8th @ 7:00 pm in the library. All are welcome. God Bless, P.
