Radial symmetry has been used in artwork throughout time. Middle eastern mosques used radial symmetry in their cobalt blue tile work that covered the walls and ceilings. Radial Symmetry: A design or pattern that has similar parts arranged around a central axis. Ex. Flower or pizza. Requirements: Design a coaster set with matching holder that shows unity. Use radial symmetry to create your original design. Correctly use under glaze to apply color to your green ware clay before bisque firing. Creating a radial design: 1. On graph paper, draw 2 circles and divide them into 4 sections each. 2. In one section of the 1st circle, fill with pattern design and line work. 3. Cut out slice. 4. At the window, hold up the cut slice underneath the other circle drawn. Trace design onto full circle. Repeat 3 more times until the circle is filled. 5. This design is now radially symmetrical because all parts are arranged around the central axis.
