DATE: August 16, 2012 TO: Agency Addressed (No. 04, 2012-2013) FROM: Christina Smith, Director Division of Accounting and Auditing Department of Financial Services SUBJECT: WATER MANAGMENT DISTRICTS MONTHLY FINANCIAL STATEMENT Chapter 2012-126, Laws of Florida, amended Section 373.536 (4)(e), Florida Statutes (F.S.), to require each water management district to provide a monthly financial statement in the form and manner prescribed by the Department of Financial Services (DFS) to the district’s governing board and make such monthly financial statement available for public access on its website. The monthly financial statement template prescribed by DFS for the water management districts is available at http://www.myfloridacfo.com/aadir/localgov/. Those water management districts that currently provide financial statements at a more detailed level should make sure the detailed information continues to be available upon request. The Chief Financial Officer’s Chart of Accounts Project, pursuant to Section 215.89, F. S., will likely result in additional reporting requirements for local government entities. Water management districts are encouraged to monitor the progress of this project for upcoming reporting requirements.
