School-‐wide Positive Behavior Support • School-‐wide Positive Behavior Support (SWPBS) is a proactive approach aimed at creating safe and effective schools. • The expectations for behaviors are clearly stated, widely promoted, and frequently referenced. • Students at Media Elementary School will: 1. Be ready 2. Be respectful 3. Be responsible • This SWPBS approach will be used in combination with our Responsive Classroom and Morning Meetings to emphasize the importance of successful social and emotional interactions and attitudes. This summer, a team of district educators designed lessons to be delivered during Morning Meetings and teachable moments across all grade levels to address three school-‐wide goals. • In the classroom, you show you are ready by: Come to school/be prompt Having materials needed Checking routines and schedule Keeping your eyes and ears on the speaker to focus on lesson/goals Thinking about how you feel throughout the day (self-‐check/self-‐ aware/mindful) Being able to shift gears to learning (flexible thinking to reset, refresh, and refocus) Transitioning promptly • In the classroom, you show you are respectful by: Using an indoor voice Knowing your personal space Caring for property and materials Raising your hand to participate and waiting to be called on Listening to others Valuing others' ideas Working to cooperate and compromise Using kind words and actions Relating to adults politely (body language/tone of voice) • In the classroom, you show you are responsible by: Following instructions Initiating and completing work (in-‐class/homework) Asking questions/seek help when needed Remaining engaged Valuing education • Other areas to consider: classroom, cafeteria, hallway, assembly (auditorium), bus and bus dismissal, playground, gym, bathroom
