Room 219 Update - Week of December 21, 2015 Dear Families, Here is what we are working on in our classroom: Math: Students have begun exploring the concept of area, and this learning will continue once we return from break. If possible, please continue to practice multiplication and division facts a few times over break to keep them fast and fresh in students’ minds! Reading: Early this week we will conclude our work with expository nonfiction. Our nonfiction unit will pick up after break with the study of narrative nonfiction. Please help to encourage your child to read and log as much as possible over winter break! Writing: Thank you for helping out your child with printing out photographs to be used as text features! It’s awesome to see how proud the students are of their finished information books. Because publishing often takes longer than expected, our publication celebration was moved to this Tuesday afternoon. Finally, students will take the persuasive writing pre-assessment in preparation for our next writing unit. Science: We wrapped up learning about the circulatory system on Monday, and will end the unit once we return from break by learning about the respiratory system. A study guide will be sent home upon our return to help students prepare for a test at the end of the first week in January. Upcoming Events: 12/22 – Winter Concert at PHS – 9:30am 12/23 – Pajama Day 12/24 – School closes for Winter Break Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns. Thank you for your dedication to your child’s education! I wish you all a restful, fun, and family-filled winter break. See you in 2016! Sincerely, Kaylee Viscuso
